JAM used to post great writeups of the weekly tournament scene and I miss being able to find all that information for the DC area. With the closing of several pool rooms in the area, I've lost track of the current tournaments.

Please post in this thread any tournaments in the area you know of. Please include the normal details (location, game, races, entry fee, start time, typical size of field, etc.). Thanks!

Those are the only weekly tournaments of which I am aware.
I think First Break in Sterling, VA has something but you will have to confirm.

Just bumping this up so we can hopefully get updates on weekly tournament action from local rooms.

I don't think many local rooms are even aware of AZBilliards. Even if they are aware of the website they may not go anywhere near the forums.

I think it is up to us long-time members to begin actively promoting this great website as much as we can.

This is a free, helpful resource for us pool lovers, and I think it has become somewhat of an invaluable resource.

If they started charging a membership fee I would happily pay it.

First Break in Sterling is still doing the Thursday tourney. However it is handicapped now unlike a couple years ago. $20 9ball 5/3 races......from what I hear they are still averaging about a 16 player bracket give or take. The usual suspects and random appearances by some of the regional pros.

Perk, whatever your rating I should be at least one ball below that...:)

I may have to check out this tourney and snap it off as a weaker player.

Too bad I live 57 miles away...:(

The New Green Room on North Point Blvd. has tuesday night 9 ball tourneys on barboxes. $20 buy in. Strong field.

Thumpers down in Curtis Bay has 9 ball tourneys every Sunday at 1. Usually around 20 players. Some good shooters, some bums. Lots of action afterwards.

Your a funny individual...I am semi retired at the moment...if after this holiday I am unable to play at least couple hours a week, I will be fully retired....

I spoke with Joe Norton and he said the Green Room stopped having the Tuesday night tournaments because people stopped showing up. This was as recently as last week.

Have they started up again?

Tournament announcements....

I just wanted to say thank you to Curtis Branker for consistantly mentioning our tournaments!! Thanks Curtis, Big Daddy's Billiards!!:)

Just bumping up the thread to see if there are some other DC area rooms out there with weekly tournaments. Thanks to everyone for their input!

Excellent resource, hopefully more people will make use of it! (But it still wouldn't hurt rooms or patrons to add info into this thread to get the word out.)

Anyone can use my site to add tournaments. It's free. Over 100 weekly tournaments currently and growing a few a week. Easy to search. Displays current day's tournaments on home page.

The Thursday night tourney at First Break in Sterling has been really good the last few weeks. Last Thursday we had 22 players including Brandon Shuff, Mike Davis, Danny Green, Ted Harris, Jeff Newlin, and our own Black-Balled, to name a few.

Felt pretty good about my 2nd-place finish! Only guy to beat me was Brandon (twice).

It is handicapped, but the spots are on the small side in my opinion; the higher-rated player is still decidedly favorite in each match (which is exactly as it should be).

On a related note, I'm planning to play again tonight. It would be very cool to see another excellent turnout; my favorite tournaments are the ones with lots of good players. If you're there, introduce yourself and I'll buy you a beer. I'm pretty easy to identify since I post under my real name.

Congrats, Andrew, on your 2nd place finish.

Unfortunately, I work downtown, but park on the outskirts, so by the time I metro back to the burbs and try and drive back to VA, it's too late to enter the tournament.

Maybe one day I'll call in sick and recover before the tournament.

Or you could tell your boss 'shove it! I'm going to play pool'.

No, don't do that.
