Weight bolts

Are weight bolt diameters and threads industry standard or do they vary significantly between manufacturers?

It would be worth your time to also post this in the cue makers section since they decide what gets used.

I’m probably one of only a few customers that told a cue maker the type of weight bolt that should be used
but don’t insert them. Just ship them along with the cue. Most people just don’t care & let the cue maker
decide if, when and type bolt is needed. I might be whistling in the dark but it kind of makes sense when most
players don’t know the actual weight of their cue or the weight of their cue’s bolt or type thread and diameter.

Most makers use a 3/8×16 weight bolt. Some use one with a head on it in the back of the cue. Others use 3/8×16 socket set screws. The advantage to these is they may be placed further into the cue from the back end. This allows you to adjust the balance point of the cue. These come in different lengths. A minimum of 2 socket set screws locked together in the cue is needed to keep them from moving or rattling.

Mezz and Predator both have their own weight bolt systems with proprietary threads/sizes. I’m sure several other brands do as well. Especially those that offer screw in extensions. Most custom makers seem to use 3/8x16.

Most USA custom cuemakeres are 3/8-16. (My knowledge on this ends about 2010).

Predator's is M16x1.5, as of about 15 years ago when they started their quick release extension system, through today.

Great.

What would you think the minimum diameter clearance of the hole would be for 95% of all cues? .3”, .25”? Seems to be around there.

I think assume 3/8-16 is the most common (and it's the smaller diameter of the other common sizes). The tap drill diameter is 5/16" or .312". You need to stay below .312" for whatever you want to stick in the butt;)
