Weight changes on Schon

Can anyone tell me what if any weight change can be made on an existing Schon and how will this effect the cues balance and playability?

You can usually get the bolt out with some persuasion. Since the butt cap is made of delrin, it does not glue well with anything and finish does not stick to it, so it's just the weight bolt holding it in place. It might help to take a grease pencil and mark where they line up so that when the new weight bolt is in place, you can line the butt cap up in the original spot so that it still fits right on the cue.

To really answer your questions....you can use a longer or shorter bolt to change the weight. It could change the balance point just a little, but that's about it.

I have never had an issue removing the weight bolt from a Schon. I know some have. Simply remove the set screw that holds the bumper in and try to unscrew the weight bolt (need a big flat-faced screw driver). Once removed, it depends on whether or not the screw is aluminum or steel and its length. If it's steel and over an inch, you can probably remove 1oz or more by replacing w/an aluminum screw.

Note that you should replace the screw with whatever material you like, but it helps hold the buttsleeve and butcap together, so it's functional not just a weight bolt.

Find a scale and weight the weight bolt vs. the new weight bolt you plan to use to tell you the difference it will make. I have heard of up to 2 ozs removed due to a long steel weight bolt, but what you currently have will dictate the change you can make. Balance will change the more weight removed or added, you'll just have to experiment.

I used to change mine all the time, you will need a wide screw driver, I could never fine one so I got a chisel, put it in a vice then put the butt screw into the chisel and twisted the butt, that was the easiest way to change it. It really did not do anything bad to the cue. Good luck, I have read that some of the screws won't come out.
