Weight?

Why do people that have no business trying to give weight try to? I was playing a guy the other day that I should have been playing even but he was was trying to give me the seven. Why? Is it an ego thing? Maybe an excuse if they loose "well I was giving him this". I don't know. What I do know is that I hope I keep running into these people. Any ideas?

Take the weight. Try to keep them interested by winning 2 and losing 1, winning 2 and losing 1, ... Never win 3 in a row.
 
why would anyone complain about being offered weight from someone you don't need it from is the real question? is it an ego thing? :p ;)

take it!! then mention that the 7 may be too much, I think the 8 would be perfect

Interesting question. imo its an ego thing maybe but more probable is that theyre an idiot. I really cant think of any reason why after playing someone you cant tell that theyre better than you or are dumping games to keep it close. But yeah you didnt deserve weight from that guy.. you lucky sob..
 
I would politely tell him you do not need the weight. If he so much as pauses, simply thank him, and send him home sweatin about the mortgage payment after you have emptied his pockets.

People do many things for many reasons. I am guessing he his stroking his own ego. But, if he offers, and you tell him you do not need it, and he quabbles with you about it, then you rob his ass blind. People sometimes learn best through example. I wish I knew more people like this!:thumbup:

Maybe Im the only one like this but I would rather feel like I won the money rather then cheated someone out of it.

No such thing as an easy game...it's pool; pool is HARD. Easy opponents, like the one offering weight that shouldn't be....sure. If you feel bad about taking the guy's money, then just tell him you'll give him the same spot he gave you for a chance to get his money back. I too like to push myself by taking too little weight or giving weight to equal players....maybe that's all he was doing.

outrunning someone you gave the NUTS to is a bigger thrill than just winning an even game....at least for me

Trusty Rusty has a good point. Last Thursday a guy walks up to me and ask to play some cheap One Pocket, $50 a game, I said sure rack'em up.

He thens says how do you want to play, I thought he wanted a ball or two, so I said lets just make a game and adjust....., He says ok, I'll give you 10 to 7!!!!!!

I thought he was joking.., I thought he was going to ask for weight?????
We played I beat him 7 in a row. He paid after every game and on the last game told me that he didnt like my game and wanted to play some next week?

Strange because he played so bad, we play again tonight, If he stops telling me that I play bad and adjust his ego, I'll play him even or give him a ball....., if not..., well thats his problem....

Its stuff like this that holds pool back and let people think its a low life hustlers game Imo If your a good player man up and play good. hiding speed just to win a few bucks is stealing in my eyes and I cant see how you could be proud of yourself for that.

Petroboy..., not sure if you looked at my reply but...., I have a guy walk up to me that I dont know and ask me to play? I say ok and he then says I will give you weight?

I do play well and I dont hide my speed, no need to i can get the cash anyway, But if you walk up to me ask me to play, offer me weight, I have to think that you play better than me, so ltes play.

If I find out that you dont and your not stalling, yet you tell me that you dont like my game and want to play the same way, well thats not on me , nor are you being hustled.
 
Yeah I dont have an issue with that but with the win 2 lose one quote and never win 3 in a row. That is what I dont like Im all about playing fair. I agree King that if a player offers your not hustling and I personally like to change the game even to make it fair for the other player because I like to have matches I may lose if I dont play well not ones that Im going to win no matter what, I play for the fun and excitement of it not the money I have a job for that.

When I do gamble or bet...its to take your money to pay for my drinks
an let you try an get it back,while your paying for everything
I really don't bet much anymore..but once in a while,when I'm low on funds
to drink on,an some one wants to gamble why not.
I don't ask them to play..they come to me,an I know I can beat them giving them a spot.Pride has nothing to do with you buying my drinks.
I'll play all day for nothing,an put my best game that I'm practicing forward.
Sorry about stealing the thread..but take the spot..take the money.
But don't be suprised if some day down the road this same guy doen't take you for some cash..lol
 
I have had the opposite problem. I knew a guy I would feel comfortable giving the 7 and winning. He might need a little more to make it tight for me. The problem is he refuses to play any way but even. He said he doesn't want the weight, but I beat him short races by 9-2, 9-3.

I don't really even gamble. I would play for free but he always wants to put a real cheap $20 on the sets. I don't get it.

He might get the cash tonight, but he's going to have to show some speed...,

I dont ask for games from guys that I can see cant play, I back games all the time and have asked the guy who just beat my horse to play some who just beat my horse...,

Got no need to steal, got no cash shortage, but I will adjust ego's if they think no backer can play or if you think youn play so good you can give a guy whatever he wants, because you are just that great!!

Love the game, love the action..., Derby City here I come!!
