Weird 1-pocket incidence

wayne The most common reason for this is the 5 balls on the side you are breaking into are not frozen to each other. A second reason is you are hitting the front ball a little too thick. A third reason is you aren't hitting it with the right kind of English. A forth reason is you arent hitting it with the right speed. A fifth and sixth reason are the table sucks or the player sucks. Can I combine all 6 reasons and emphasis on the 6th reason ? :p

Thanks for your comments. I'll get into vigorous 1h break practising as soon as I get to the pool hall... I want to get it right, the break gives a nice advantage if you (I) don't mess it up.

Confusing for beginners

Do not want to be nit picky but everybody posting on how to break is mentioning right hand english. That is fine if you are breaking from the left side of the table. But for the beginners who are learning they might be breaking from right side and in that case you are using left english.
Probably best way to describe the break is to use inside english. (to the inside of the rack)

Well he doesn't draw the cb to the side rail but he does use a little bit of draw. His cb actually arcs a little to the bottom rail; visualize an inverted C shape. The inside draw makes the CB stall a little on the bottom rail. He comes up between diamonds 2 and 3 on the side rail too. If you get a chance to watch him play 1h, do it because he really can play that game! Another good 1h player to watch, besides Efren of course, is Santos. He has a beautiful stroke for 1h.

Yes, sorry, you are correct that a little draw is workable and could help to avoid a kiss on the rear ball and with the proper English you can leave the cueball where you said.

I have played Santos 1h many times, in fact I think I got him into playing one-pocket about 5-6 years ago. He learned very quickly and used to give me 11-7 and the breaks. He has gotten a lot better over the years but the funny thing is I now play him even, he won't spot me anything anymore so I guess I got better quicker. He is the favorite though playing even but I have a lot of fun playing him cheap and I usually break even or end up a couple of games loser.
