Here's the listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Tim-Scruggs-Cus...ryZ21212QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It is item # 7227965555

The description says, in part "The butt is made out of Gaboon ebony and coca bola and also has a pressed Irish linen wrap (black)."

Then you can download pictures - 5 of them. Here they are.
I'm not Q guru, but there's no TS logo. The wrap isn't black, don't see any cocobola either. Isn't a cactus on the pin a SW (see 001.jpg)?

Sent the lister a question, but what's going on here folks?

Im pretty sure there is another thread on this stick and another one from same seller and someone said that there may be a virus in the picture link (exe. file-whatever that means).Unless you know different, i 'd say stay away from it.

what's an exe?

Well, its hard to bid on a TS that looks like an SW!
The pics came in a self-extracting file, which has the extension ".exe" - that's just computerese for "executable" which is the program that unzips the pics. I did all that and posted the pics in my post at the start of this thread. An exe can be virus laden, but I don't believe this one was.

However, thanks for the note, and I'm sorry if I missed the other thread on this...did feel like AZers would be all over this though if something was amiss....

.zip is the typical "extracting" method for sending several pics in one link. I bet I can say for the majority that I would never open an executable from any unknown source....

EXE is the format that opens, extracts, and runs a service or application on your system.

i didn't have the nerve to run an .exe from an eBay listing, so i never saw the pics...hard to believe it's a real listing with those pics/description.

note: i work with computers and would advise everyone to NOT open executable files posted on the internets. there are nasty critters out there. on the other hand, eBay probably checks that sh1t out.

..but about the Q?

Thanks for the warnings on .exe files, but I'm pretty comfortable computers & with how I handled this insofar as not getting a virus onto my computer goes. The advice though is sound - not to play with .exe's unknowingly.

Anyway, enough of that - what gives with this listing, eh?

Busted. VIRUS WARNING

I have determined that this eBay listing is disseminting a virus
eBay item # 7227965555
seller: isla-creations
Purposrt to be a Scruggs cue.
Has this link in blue:
full size pictures in one self-extract archive

You are OK if you DON"T CLICK ON THAT LINK!
Doing so does download a .exe file/ or lets you run the .exe file. This file does contain pictures of a pool cue, though not the one in the descriptions. However, it also contains the TROJAN.BANKEM VIRUS, which attempts to capture banking information, especially if you do business with banks in Germany.

Symantec's (= Norton's) discussion of this virus, and how to deal with it / get rid of it are here:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.bankem.html

I also sent this information to eBay.

Heres a picture of what you do to known scammers on ebay, who post virus'.

If you cant see the pic click This
Make a new username, and bid the item up to some high trivial amount and then never check it again.

If anyone is mad because i ruined this auction for them, trust me i did you a favor, this auction is a scam. The guy has 1 feedback, and has a virus hosted within the auction.

Also the listing is for a Scruggs, and his pictures are of a southwest???? Dont be stupid, dont get ripped on ebay, and NEVER pay by money order.
