Well done mate!
Very impressive results in the first and second rounds.

For those who haven't seen it:
24-11 in the first round.
10-6 today in a pretty convincing win. (Except for falling asleep at 9-2):D

That kilt seems to work better than Earl's gloves:p

Keep it going buddy!
Colin

Cardie, you've really asked for your bandwidth to get hammered there... 'Bout time you got some extra think!

Congratulations Pat! Putting on a show at one of pool's biggest events of the year;)

2-Ball, I would expect....

Unless he's a bit.... specially gifted!

Aye, Pat, the class is definately showing through now....

Only 5 more matches for the title. (Listen to me - "only 5 more matches" - as if it was easy!)

C'mon Pat. Get it done!

We love ya baby!

No offense to Mr. Pat Holtz but i have a hard time understanding his words..being a commentator...where is Bob G or that Canadian guy???

Wow! Pat is on a roll in Manila, he will definitely face his biggest challenge yet when he squares off against defending champion Wu. Best of luck Pat from your friends here at AZ.

Heh, my wife said the same thing today. Personally I have no trouble understanding him, but then I've known quite a few Scots over the years, that helps. Mind you, get a Glaswegian drunk & you've got no chance!!

Great to see him doing well though, I must try & catch his next game.

On a roll!

Great going Pat, on the table and in the commentary box:D

Hear's hoping your breaks and play keep to form and you take down Wu today! I'm sure it's within your capabilities, and if you can beat him, you can win the whole thing.

Being 1/8th Scottish and having worn a kilt on several occassions, I'm 100% in your corner:D

The first time I ever saw Pat play was at the 2004 WPC against Steve Davis (on tv). Although he lost that match it was quite obvious that he was a very capable player.

It's awsome to see him have a good run at this years tournament. If he can beat Wu, then I wouldn't rule him out to win the whole thing.

Those who don’t know Pat, the kilt he proudly sports is made from the rather sombre Dunlop tartan, which is the closest equivalent there is to Holtz. It comes complete with the now fashionable ‘X’ marks the sporran. This is actually MacIntyres tartan, but as any true Scotsman will tell you, Dunlop have been MacIntyres for as long as anyone can remember.

Contrary to what many may expect, Pat is not in the least bit nationalistic. Pool is a macho sport, and the kilt rather cleverly plays on the terror most US and Asian players in particular have of losing to anything wearing a dress. In fact, so alike do most westerners look to Asian eyes, at least one of his early conquests is still in therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder on the mistaken understanding he’d just been whitewashed by an unshaven Allison Fisher.

Pat comes from Auchtermuchty (meaning Chest Cold), which has a proud engineering history, and is rightly famous as the birthplace of copper wire, resulting from years of painstaking research and development. Well I say research and development. What I mean is a drunken argument over a penny. Like most Scotsmen Pat displays a natural confidence in his abilities, and is already referring to his next opponent as Chia Ching Who?

In the event that he reaches the final, Pat has promised to stand on the table and show he is indeed a true Scotsman in the time-honoured manner, by performing the ceremonial hoisting of the kilt, which goes all the way back to Rob Roy Coltrane himself, who was a keen butterfly catcher. Pat may not be aware of this promise yet, but nevertheless, here it is in black and white.

Well done Pat. You’ve done us proud.

Pat,
You ended up going down 11-6 to Wu, but you put up a hell of a fight.

Clearly you got the bad run of balls a couple of time early on and could easily have been 8-6 up instead of 8-6 down.

If things had of turned out your way early, I expect Wu would have made more errors later on. But in the end, he played a bit better (an incredible talent), but you put in an effort that we are all amirable and proud of I'm sure.

It was clear you were playing strong and confidently most of the game. A sure sign of a real quality player. Very few could have knocked you off today.
You worked out the break pretty well, with 3 break and runs in a row when you really needed them.

A hell of a performance and all that know you were proud to watch and support you today. I believe you were a couple of lucky turns away from moving to the last 8 and being a real threat for the trophy!

Cheers,
Colin

Hey all, thanks for all the great support you have given me throughout the Championship, it has helped me no ends to know you're all right behind me in my quest to put Scotland on the World 9 ball map and I hope that I have done that with my play in this competition.

I was really pumped up for the match with Wu and believed deep down that I was going to beat him and if I had, then there would have been no stopping me to win to crown.

This event has given me a huge boost in confidence to know that I can compete with the greatest players in the World today and I expect bigger and better things to happen in future events.

Back to the match itself, I was deeply dissapointed with my play as I have played well above that during the competition to reach this stage. I missed about 3 pots and my safety game was not at it's usual best. I think these few factors were the cause of my defeat and I know for next time not to be so sloppy. I always felt that if I got level with him then I could surge ahead as he wasn't so comfortable out there today and was there for the taking IMO. There were a few times that a crucial roll went his way and he also played some great shots when required. In the end it was not to be and I was gutted after the game and still am now but time is a good healer and I look forward to my next encounter with him.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Manila, the people and fans are so friendly it feels like being back home.......they really took to the guy dressed in the kilt! :)

I've also enjoyed my time in the commentary alongside Jerry Forsyth and will be back there today for the Souquet v Liu match (qtr-finals). I have been asked to do the final match itself but I have a flight booked to get back home as Shirley has work on Monday. All the guys from ESPN Star Sports have enjoyed the Scottish accent on the games and they like the insight on the game that I can provide from a players point of view. I may have carved a wee niche on the sidelines for the future when I hang my cue up, who knows, eh? :D

I wore the kilt with great pride throughout the event and this also spurred me on to win matches. I was so proud to represent Scotland at these Championships and look forward to going back next year and doing it all again. :D

Thanks once again.

Hi Pat,

Congratulations on your outstanding performance in the WPC. You sure won a lot of fans in the Philippines. In your opinion, who do you think will win this year? Is WU really unbeatable? Who do you think are the 2 players that will give him a hard time to maintain the WPC title?

Pat, that's a shame you won't be doing the final, your commentary has been great. As well as being entertaining you sound like you've been doing it for years! You may well be right on what the future could hold. I for one hope so.

And well done with your own efforts at the table, here's hoping you go all the way next year!

All the best mate.

Ohh i am sad for Mr. Holtz .. but what if he won the World Pool Champinoship and do the Earl Sickland thing... jumping on the top of the table hahaha ohhh sure bet we will know the mystery underneath that kilt!!! :D
