I have a history of cataracts on my Mother's side of the family and my right eye has been getting worse. Confirmed it today. Unfortunately they won't do surgery until it is so bad I can't pass the driver's exam which the doctor said could take maybe ten years or more.

Oh well.

Dude, that sucks! Have you thought about "failing" the drivers exam eye test NOW so they can get you up to speed.... Heck, if you really TANK the test they may just sign you up as a Major Leage Umpire !!

Wow, sorry to hear that.

The only good news is that when they ever do get around to doing the surgery, it's supposed to be far more successful now that it used to be. Small comfort, that, I'm sure...

You think you've got it bad? I went to the Doctor last week to have some tests done and he said he would call and tell me the results. He calls me up and says. "Mr. Steamer, I have some bad news, and some really bad news."
I said. "Damn, Doc. What's the bad news?"
He said. "You've only got fourty-eight hours to live."
I said. "Holy crap Doc, what's the really bad news?"
He said. "I tried to get hold of you all day yesterday."

I know the feeling. I was born with cataracts and have dealt with them my entire life. I have talked to the optometrist many times about having surgery. They kept saying it is better to wait. They said that I shouldn't have the surgery until my safety is affected from my eyes (driving).

Anything with my eyes has always been a struggle. Everything from putting drops in to just the thought of the surgery. I am considering it, but only because of all of the positives that follow. The doctor has told me that I can have surgery, but I just need to get used to putting drops in. We'll see what happens.

Nope. I think he is worried due to my age, 27. The longer the prosthetic lens is installed, the more chance for other issues. I am pretty sure that is why he wants me to wait on my surgery. I know wearing my glasses alone would probably help my pool game, but it drives me crazy.

Technology will move way quicker than your doctors thinking! A few years ago they told lots of people they were not candidates for Lasix surgery and it's now not true. Everyones eyesight goes downhill at some point. That's why older fellows play one pocket which is almost a half table game! Good luck with the peepers.

I was not kidding about "failing" the test now. Trust me on this one. They'll be cutting you faster than a Thanksgiving turkey. Surgeons like to "cut", and if you can't see "now" duet to failing the eye test, then off you go to the chopping block. Problem solved once surgery is done.
