Went for the OB-174

So...it's Spring time. And in Connecticut that's a perfectly acceptable reason to buy a new cue stick. I've been flirting with the idea of buying an OB cue for some time. The owner feedback & overall reputation is amazing. That's one thing if you've got a fat kat marketing budget of some powerhouse corporate cue maker headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. But OB has gotten this reputation organically via a grassroots customer base who are simply fanatical about their OB cues.

I went for the OB-174, 19 ounce, OB-1+ shaft, standard tip, w/ joint protectors. I purchased the cue from OmegaBilliards.com I don't remember how I found them, but they are amazing. The customer services is excellent with great attention to detail. I won't quote the price I got, but I was blown away! At no time did they violate what I imagine are the in place MAP rules. I engaged in the negotiation process via email and was beyond happy with the results. And they didn't nickel and dime me either. The price included everything, soup to nuts, delivered and insured, to my door step. From here forward OmegaBilliards.com will be on my very short, 1st Call List for pool gear.

Interestingly enough, Omega has the elusive OB-136 I N S T O C K. Yeah, I thought that stick was like unicorn impossible to get too, but they have a few in stock. Thanx for letting me share. -Z-

I saw them at billiardwarehouse.
Didn't fall for the OB line though "Ebony cues are what the cool kids are using" ....lol
Silly....

Yes it's silly, all the cool kids are using cocobolo. Of course in Asia ebony cues are like low digit license plates, you get some you can make a good buck selling them. Or a good Yen, or whatever.

Update

So last Saturday the OB-174 was delivered. The cue is a thing of beauty...BUT, in the picture it looks black-on-black, or at least Charcoal on Black. The reality is the points are against a natural dark wood colored background. While beautiful, I didn't like the natural wood color. I decided to send it back.

I called Joanne at Omega Billiards and she was all good with returning the OB-174. I went for the OB-136 instead for a few dollars more. I received it yesterday (Saturday) and it's a beautiful cue for sure. I'm not a fan of the wrap, it's leather with a lizard embossed pattern. Some may like it, but I couldn't deal.

So, I shot Paul Drexler of the world famous PFD Studios an email and yada, yada, yada, I got a brand new, genuine, old skool, Irish Linen wrap on my OB-136. It's black with dark orange specks. It fits the color scheme of the cue beautifully. If I can fold all the laundry presently occupying the Pool Table (covered) tonight, I'll post pictures later or tomorrow. -Z-

Omega Billiards had 5 or so in stock before I ordered mine. They're located like 20 minutes from OB so I'm thinking with how small the Pool world is there's a relationship there. I stumbled upon them having the OB-136 completely by accident during the whole process. I was Googling for pics and one of the pics that came up was from the Omega Billiards website. As far as I could tell there's no natural way to pull up that page via a link from their website...so here it is http://www.omegabilliards.com/OB_136_p/ob136.htm

I will say this, all the professional promotional pics online are a computer generated image and not the actual stick. The colors are a little different. They're still beautiful, but different from the promotional pics.

You do realize the pictures are CAD drawings, not actual pictures?

Looks great with the new wrap :) I was going to order the same cue and then have a white with green specks wrap put on.... but they stopped making them. I have not seem them anywhere for sale.

I think OB should bring this cue back, seems odd to stop making the best looking cue, imho, they ever made ??

Omega Billiard has a few in stock believe it or not, or at least they did when I spoke to them last Monday. I know one gentleman here purchased 1 OB-136 from them after I did. There should be 3 or so left. Call them. www.OmegaBilliards.com

I hope it's not signed by Dale Perry

I have it on reliable information from a former OB employee (in another thread) that there was only 11 OB-136 cues made and released for sale and all 11 of them were made by Royce. Quote is below. ,

The 136 that you have found is perfectly fine as Royce built the 11 that were sold. Well, I built the blank for him to inlay, but still, it is from a good batch of blanks built the OB way, not like the forementioned Perry cheap ass ebay way. That started in April 2017.
