Went to Diamonds in Dallas

Well, even though no AZers responded and met up with me there, I went anyway and have to say, what a great setup they have going on.

They have a great sweaters area with a good view to all the tables. Ben was friendly at the door and made me feel at home. Cliff and Lizard were playing some one-pocket. What more could you ask for?

The tables are beautiful. Great condition and played extremely tight and lively. Took me a while to get used to how tight they were and how much better the rails played.

Nobody approached me to play, and I was cool with just practicing, so I didn't seek anyone out. I just used the time to get some practice on tight equipment. Coming from the bar leagues, it was a pretty good shock!

Met DiamondD and it was great to talk with him. They have some good things coming up re: internet video.

If you're in the Dallas area and a fan of good pool, I highly recommend stopping in.

Cheers,
RC

did you try their seven footer?

If I were in bar leagues or didn't have room for a nine foot table one of those little Diamonds would be my first choice. Some adjustments to go back to the bar tables but that is the finest seven foot table I ever played on. Of course I am a sucker for the nine foot Diamonds so spent most of my time on one of those while I was passing through. I was short on time so I didn't try to match up either. As was your experience, everyone was friendly but not pushy. Sure wish Diamonds was nine hours closer to home!

Amen to that. I love those bar diamonds, but I seldom get a chance to practice on really tight 9 footers so that's where I spent my time.

One great thing about playing bar tables in Denver when I was there was that a lot of rooms had those 7' diamond bar tables with a red dot CB. Really a step up from a normal 'bar table' game.

never saw them before

Most of the bar tables I have seen are Valleys and I had never seen the Diamond seven footer before. I quit drinking many years ago so the Diamond's may be more common in bars around here than I realize but I doubt it. Seems like one company puts in most of the tables that don't belong to the bar owner and they apparently don't buy the Diamond seven foot tables. My short time on one did indicate that they were far better to play on than the standard issue bar tables around here. I measured pockets at Diamond's and found the bar table and nine footers to have exactly the same pockets so many shots are identical on either table.

You must have been up there Friday night? I was up there later that night, around 10 to practice, then sat back and watched the end of Cliff & Lizard playing.

I myself wouldn't put a diamond bar table in a "Drinking" bar. It would get demolished and your average bar player wouldn't even know what he was playing on. Probally would complain its too fast. We recently acquired a room here in Huntsville Al that has 22 Diamond 7ft Pro Am's and 4 9ft Pro Am's and they play off the charts.

I think I was there from about 9 to about 10:30 or so. I practiced for about an hour, then watched a little of Cliff and Lizard for a while, but I had to get to bed a little early.

Sorry I missed you. I didn't see your original post, but I always like meeting new people from the forums. :)

If you come to Dallas again, hopefully I'll get to meet you.

That would be cool. I don't have any plans to go there again right now, but I'll definitely give a shout if I get back that way.

Cheers,
