Were do you stand as a cue buyer?

Cues

I'm buying as many cues as I can ! I'm a player for starters, play in different 8 Ball & 9 Ball leagues, go to Vegas for the big BCA 8 Ball nationals and I've found my nitch. When I first started out I was ALL over the place, cues from everybody and their mother but I know exactly what cue makers I now collect and play with and if their were more of these cues available I'd get those also. Just really enjoying myself & AZbilliards. I like meeting new people, cue builders, ect ! I'm not one who is patient, If I want a cue, I want it like yesterday so I don't get on all these cue builders list's that have these long waiting times, I just don't do it. I'll wait til it hits the second hand market and make an offer. I love to also wheel & deal, that's have the fun to me. I'm in the process of trying to work a three way deal now. Grabbing a cue from one guy so I can trade it to another for the cue I want, I love that stuff. Anybody looking to get out of the game, I'm always looking to buy and yes I'm pretty savy I know just about all the going rate on the cues I like and stick to that 95% of the time. Although I'm in a deal now where I'm definitely over paying for a cue but I just have to have it and sometimes what's a few extra bucks among friends. Besides I'd just blow it at the massage parlors anyway, LOL ! Dan

I am a firm believer in the old saying "It's the indian not the arrow." I bought a players hxte cue for the low deflection shaft however past that i don't really believe getting a 400 dollar cue is really going to improve my game that much. I can go on some pretty long runs (like 6 or 7 when playing 8 ball) when the balls are in the right positions without much trouble. The thing for me right now is when my head gets in the way and control.

I would love to get an american made cue just for the rarity of having one anymore but really at this point in my game i don't think I will be getting a new cue anytime soon.

Like several people who have already responded, I am pretty much only buying from cuemakers. Part of this is due to the fact that I play with 60" cues and you don't find a ton of them on the secondary market. The other part is that half the fun for me is working with the Cuemaker to flesh out an idea I've come up with. As for selling cues, any time I've ever sold a cue I've taken a loss but I've also decided that I'm not going to sell anything anymore so that takes a lot of the anxiety out of the equation.

I, also, don't understand those who don't play with the cues. My fancy JMW is my current daily player and I'll certainly play with the cues I get from makers whose lists I'm on and my next cue (Tonkin) that will be finished next year!
