Ahh, so good to be home again. There was no WiFi at the place I stayed at, so I had to wait until today to post anything about it. Here's a bit of my trip there..
I arrived in Lincoln City at about 11:30 at night and unpacked. Took a little time to chat at the house before I decided I needed to get my fix and see if they still had the rooms open to practice at Chinook Winds Casino.
About 15 minutes after I get there and only barely getting a few racks of messing around, somebody shows up to play some. By 8:30 in the morning, I was calling it a draw with a pretty good player that was giving me the 8 - his scotch match was about to start in 30 minutes. From the first of the 3 people I played non-stop, I was a couple hundred in the black.
Monday, I got up late, messed around some on the tables and played two minis at the end up the day, getting eighty for the twenty I put in. I was tired and called it a night.
Tuesday, my first singles match started at 4:30, so I was well-rested. Ended up taking my 3 matches that day pretty easily. Afterwards, I played a bit more with the local Master player from Monday morning and got the call-8. Took that with a little on the side and felt good. Another strong player, Eddie Carrido, was shooting around behind us. "Want to play?" Figuring I was up some, okay. I put up the previous bet I won and refused anything on the side. Well.. I forgot he was raised up to regional Grand Master and he showed me why. I think I got 1 decent shot out of 3 times at the table and he broke and ran out 4 of the 7, whooping me 7-zip. He asked me if I wanted to play again, but he refused to give me any bigger of a spot. I laughed at him, instead of slapping him like I wanted to.
Wednesday, I bombed my two matches pretty well. The first one I out-played him, but hooked myself on at least 2 8s. Ended 17th-24th in a 164 person A field. One of my buddies got a little further, which was cool to watch.
Thursday, I watched some, played around a bit and then played one mini at night. I had signed up for the 8-person race-to-4 mini at about 8:30. After my first match, it must've been a couple of hours until my next match. At about 12:15 or so, my next opponent just finished his match and we agreed to just split and take off because we both had 9am Friday team events.
Friday, our team event had 74 people. We played pretty well, winning 3 I think. I matched up, giving somebody a game in a race to 4 and my shots started failing me again.. ugh.. lost a little and made sure it didn't hurt.
Then, on Saturday, we lost two in a row somewhere around 13-9 each. We had our chances, but I suppose that's what all of the losing teams think. We ended 9th-12th for teams, so it was a small, but decent, payday for the couple of checks. I went directly back to the house and ensured that my profits stayed where they were. Especially since I had actually began to shoot worse, or so it had felt like.
It was probably a bit more fun than I make it sound like.
Now, on to another thing..
