I guess it would depend on how far you are traveling, but I have always thought it was worth my while to go. I won't be playing on a team, but I will be playing Singles and Scotch Doubles.

The BCA is loosening its rule about no IPT members, given the state of the IPT, so that Mike and I can play as Grand Masters (not sure about my status, I may just be a Master, since that is what I played as last year.)

I will probably want to sweat 'our' team, as it will consist of Dan Louie, Todd Marsh, Tim Tweedell, Eddie Mataya, and Micah O'Malley for Regionals.

For Vegas, it will be Danny, Mike, Todd, Timmy and probably JD for the master's division.

Chinook Winds is adding $10,000, another $2k comes from the BCAPL, and $12K from the Western BCA, so it should be worth it to go. It's great for all the events and the minis, plus the ocean is fabulous. A couple years ago, it was sunny and hot and a memory I will cherish...just sitting on the beach basking in the sun in February.

It is a very well run event and all I have is positive things to say about it. They get a very good turn out and with the added money there is also a good payout. All of the people are courteous and friendly. There is no smoking in the playing room which is a bonus (for me anyway). The matches are spaced well so you get breaks if you stay on the winners side, if not you may play every 2 hours.

My runs down there:
2004 Open 'B' 8-ball: 3rd out 0f 172 for $550 moved to Open A
2005 Open 'A' 9ball: Out of money, 112 players ..won the Second chance for $500
2005 Open'A' 8ball: 7th/8th for $200 Moved to Masters Division
2006 Masters 9ball: 1st for $1305

There are relatively cheap hotels and obviously you are at the beach so there are cheap beach houses as well.

When is it?

I noticed that they are showing the WPBA Championship on tv this week from Chinook Winds.

Linda, that sounds like one kickass team!

Yes, I was surprised that there was another Micah around here. :)

Yeah, I hope I don't lose action from the local suckers because they saw that a Micah O'Malley did real well at the coast. j/k

Definitely a strong team. Tough to beat any one of those players in a set, but one game at a time is different. Teams is always stressful sweating your other teammates...especially against a team like that. :D

Thanx for the info guys and dolls

I'm coming from alaska so its quite a trip. R there mini tournaments or challenge tables down there? How many players to a team down there?

Wow, quite a long haul from Alaska. You may want to get a hold of Bill Henderson with WesternBCAto see if you are covered in the region. Can't see you not be, but still might be worth a call.

In the afternoon about 5PM there are lots of mini tourneys going on. usually $10 entry with 8 players single elim winner take all... or sometimes $60/$20 for 1st/2nd. Both in your division or scotch doubles, etc. There isn't a specific Challenge Table. There is also a $100/entry ring game that they put on.

8ball is 5 person teams (to play in Open division, you can only have open players. At least one Master on the team the whole team plays in Masters division).
9ball is 3 person teams. One Open division tourney and you can only have one Master player per team.

Just to elaborate on teams...3 core persons had to have played on the same team during the same session, and 2 grand masters cannot play at Regionals on the same team.
