Wet table

Can someone give pointers on playing on wet tables ? I've been playing pool 35 years and never make proper adjustments. Every big loss I can remember has been on a rainy day.

You play outside on an uncovered table while its raining???? Or do you play inside while its raining with high humidity? I'm a little lost.

Tables play very different when humid or wet . The rails are very lively and the bed cloth is slow. I can't figure out how to play under these conditions .

Simple answer ... when you wake up and it is raining, pull the covers back over your head and don't go to the pool hall. Problem solved!

I thought that's what u meant. It takes a couple of games to adjust, for me, but I'll get there before my playing time is up. Sometimes it takes all night. I've found it easier to deal with when you stay on one table. Some cheaper tables do funny things......maybe it has to do with the installer too.

The reason I asked if you played outside was......there's a place down here that had a table outside and it would get soaked when it rained. They wouldn't cover it or anything. I think it eventually fell apart. Every time I drove by it I would shake my head in disbelief.

I've played on a table that was actually wet -- that is, rain going horizontally across it. Don't try to use much spin.

But for humid conditions, you just have to learn a different game. Use side spin and follow to move, not draw, since the draw disappears very quickly. If you practice runouts with just plain follow, your game will not be affected much. Fancy players will suffer.

I just hit everything like 20% harder. You think you're gonna overrun shape but you don't.
And settle for thinner cuts so that moving the CB is easy. Straight in is the worst.
You don't want to be forced to power draw anything.

Unless you're a Filipino player like Reyes, who was raised on wet tables, you're probably better off keeping things simple when the tables are wet from high humidity.

Ball pocketing will be tougher. Drawing back will be practically non-existant, Roll more shots, use less sidespin, try to get the right angle on the shot and really zero in on your ball pocketing. Nothing beats damp pocket facings to spit balls back out at you.

The most important thing I learned when playing on wet tables is to play conservatively. You won't be able to do all the things you can do on a dry table, so why even try?

Assume you are playing on a blanket table. Impossible to draw, but follow works decently.
