Did I mention that the action seemed a little slow??? Scratch that. As players are rolling in from the Windy City, the action room has awoken from it's jogging pace to a nearly sprinting one.
Hennessy from Tennessee has yet to be out of action, with his arm wrestling affair, and with his two sets of 8-ball vs. Darrren Appleton. Mucho dimes are passing his way and he's still making games. KTown is running mates with him, so hopefully he can give more color to those matchups.
Speaking of Appleton, he's trying another American. 10-ahead 8-ball, straight up with the very popular Shane Van Boening. The lamp was carrying at least four bundles, with at least five bags of sand in each. Both were playing very good 8-ball, but Shane's break is much bigger than Darren's. As I left at 6:00 AM, Shane was having the best of it, up as much as 6 ahead, but it had dropped down to 3-ahead. We had several AZBers in the front row sweating it, so we should have some up close stats.
Keith Bennett and Chris Bartrum also were going 10 ahead for a few dimes. Keith's huge break led him to a strong lead at 8-ahead, but Bartrum's runouts skills brought him back to the game and trimmed the lead back. When the score had dropped all the way back to even, it looked pretty obvious that the end was near for Bennett as the momentum was just rolling Bartrum's way. Bartrum's been in a lot of action this week, and this was an impressive comeback win for him.
One of the few races saw Sparky against recent Sands winner Rich Orem. In a race to 11, the aggressive Ferrell built a good lead. But Rich never changed his pace and never seemed out of it. Sparky reached the hill, but failed to runout two very runnable racks. And that was that. Orem caught him on the hill, and sealed the case for a couple of nickles or so.
Rachael Abbink is in the house, sporting of all things... red hair! Yum yum. I guess her mom said something about her blonde hair making her look like a... porn star. LOL!!!! So, she colored her hair red for her mom. I figured she really did it for yours truly. Anway, Rachael hasn't been playing as much pool in the past year, but she got into a mixed scotch game for two bucks. I don't know if that was per game or per set. Small stuff, by Derby standars, but with Rachael Abbink, it's always entertaining.
We need more woofing. Most of the action is silent dealing, with the rail guessing the game. About the only thing this morning was Monster John woofing at Ronnie Wiseman. The woofing was intriguing at best. What really was enterntaining was Monster John sporting corn rows and the urban sports fan look. Quite a sight, for those who know Monster John.
And speaking of outfits, did I mention that Efren must be getting fashion tips from Alex? Yup, baggy jeans, white sneakers, and a collared golf shirt. He was definitely stylin'.
Until tomorrow, hopefully,
Fred
