I have 2 lathes, a Porper model A (thats right a model A) and a wood lathe. I had a Predator shaft on the porper with a tip drying on it. I put a McDermott shaft on the wood lathe and turned it on to get ready to clean it. I turned around to get my paper towels and when I did I think the chuck went loose or something and the shaft started flying around and smacking into the bed on the lathe. I now use that shaft as a cheese grater. So with desire to be more careful I go over and start working on the Predator shaft. I use a razor blade to trim the tips down and when I started trimming the blade caught and took a nice big slice out of that soft Predator ferrule. To add degradation to insult AND injury, when I started slowly trimming off the old ferrule the hollow end of that predator shaft decided to splinter and shred. I'll take 3 butts over that day anytime! At least the McDermott shaft was mine and not a customers cue.
Please understand that this is in no way shape or form a normal thing for me. I take a lot of pride in the work I do and have a lot of dedicated customers that only come to me. I just happened to have a really really bad day once.
