What a home room looked like in the early 60’s

Gorgeous pool room!

With so many people downsizing, I wonder how many home pool rooms there are these days.
I never saw one as a kid. In contrast 3 in the 8 houses on our cul de sac.

Houses are getting bigger…much bigger in Canada. In the 1960s many houses were 1000 ft bungalows with an unfinished basement. Now new they are 2000 plus sq feet with all levels finished….ours 3000 sq feet.

Wasn't the stores fault. Buyer had to go for it. Like trying to blame the dealer for someone's drug/alcohol addiction.
I don't know, they didn't want their money. They go in for a $4.00 toaster and walk out with $300.00 in credit. Then it is just a matter of time before they nickel and dime themselves into debt.
Like I said they also targeted young naive newlyweds they used to use them in their advertising. Remember the famous ads "We've only just begun."

People are not downsizing. I know the media tells us that they are, but that is BS.

The human race is entropy epitomized.
Yeah, that's probably true. Although some people want to downsize, there are still plenty of spacious new homes popping up all over the place.

A table like that would have been sold in a place like Sears. Tables like that were maybe $300.00 with honeycomb beds. (Remember those?)

Honeycomb bed...yeah, we had a Sears table with one.

Only one pocket was injured, so to speak, and if the OB got close, it went it.

The cool part for me is when I got to college, they had the exact table in the commons that I grew up on. lol...

I remember going to Sears when I was very very young and looking at the pool tables & the pic of the honeycomb bed. I was facilitated by pool tables, I had never hit a ball and rennet this, the cut away pic of it and why it was so good. I didn’t even know what slate was.

I liked the dish washer and washing machines with the glass fronts and the light inside. Plus the little snack counter with Hot Spanish Peanuts. It is interesting that a large part of Sears financial issues later in its life was caused by internet based home shopping. A business model that they were kings of at one time using catalogs, mail order and phone sales.

I published catalogs and sold general merchandise until 2008. I know the feeling of e-commerce lol. Ouch

It started to die in 04, by the time 08 rolled around and people gained confidence in e-commerce (the box would show up from Amazon etc) was game over for me. I don’t miss the stress of that biz. Was a 12 year run, did better than I thought possible. Couldn’t make the transition to a online model, lost a million trying. It’s long over and I was very lucky.

Yes, plus there was a bit of an economic bust in there too. Sorry you had to go through that.

That is the thing about it..the new players were ready to go and traditional business had to go thru a learning curve, investment and re-launch and by then it was to late. There was also a lot of the "who would buy a sofa or what ever off the internet? Wtf! That is crazy!" mindset out there.
