What about the non-smoking?

non smoking has become a world wide movement. they have banned smoking in the LONDON PUBS, for christ's sake!!! and now JAPAN has now gotten on the bandwagon!!!

pool will either have to move into the 21st century, or seperate itself further still from the rest of society.

it is inevitable that the less society smokes, there will be more folks turned off by it. and that means more people will avoid pool rooms that encourage it.

Ok to start off with to the room owners i only have 2 words for you "SMOKE EATER". These things work GREAT you might want to look into them.

My main ? for the room owner of the non-smoking room is if a smoker is playing in a tourny match and feels He/She needs a smoke are they allowed to go out and smoke? I mean you would allow someone to take a bathroom break so im jsut wondering how you handle this.

I'll say one thing.

I live in Cali and am a non smoker, I thought it was great when the pool rooms all went to nonsmoking. Of course, there are always problems though. I went a couple of years back to Virgina Beach and tried to play in a tournament there. It took some getting used to, I couldn't see! well, I'm being a little melodramatic here. But it was hard after paying for years with no smoke in the rooms.

Not to mention they wouldn't let me play in the tournament. The director hadn;t said anything to me about needing to watch me play and rate me. HE just said show up ahead of time and sign up. I said ok and showed up plenty of time ahead. He asked me what I was rated when I signed up and said I was an A. HE said ok and went about his business, then five minutes before it started he comes over and says that I can't play in the tournament. I asked why and he said because he had some complaints that I had never played there before. I told him that that would be the only chance I had to play in the tournaments they had there and that I would play at whatever their highest rating was, but he said no way and refunded my entry fee.

I guess it didn't help that the U.S. open was going on twenty miles away. He probably thought I was a hustler out there for all the follow up action. ;)

Diane, lots of luck with the smoke-free place. And I think you're right that plenty of nonsmokers -- at least 75% of the population and probably the majority of players, if you include all your potential customers, not just the big gamblers -- will drive out of their way to make up for the few smokers you might lose for awhile.

the "Smoke Eater" will not work in this spot.

Hey "jbell",
The "Pool Room II" was opened after law changes in the county of its location. The non-smoking rule complies with county laws. (Not a choice of the owner)

Yes, smoking players are allowed smoke breaks.

"have a nice day"

Were you on the Talladega in Bremerton, Wa. in 69 or 70?

Yes I was, Helped decommission it in Bremerton. I was a 3rd class Boatswain's
Mate. Got into it my first full day there with the lil black guy that started
the riot a month before, and had just got out of the brig. He was picking
on a guy that couldn't defend himself, so I jumped in. Round and round, finally, I told him if he felt froggy to jump. He ended up backing down. Later, I heard
what a badazz he was suppose to be. I lived in a house with Jim Benedict and
his wife, Linda off ship later on.
