Since the beginning of the 2nd half of the 20th century, Pool has been the center of being the nation's very own form of billiards. Before 9-ball in the 80s became TV popular and Coin-Op tables (IMHO) really killed straight pool and made 8-ball popular, there were other forms of billiards that were similar - if not - popular as our playable pocket billiards is today. Greats like Hoppe, the Schaffers, M. Katsura, Sutton, and many other of those greats really made Carom games such as Straight-rail, various forms of balkline, and 1/3 cushions so extraordinary. Snooker was as well in those categories. Since games as the prior vanished away (as well as its superstars), in this 21st century of games, will we ever see a resurrection of these forms of billiards ever again, or will we just consider these games as asides?

In a interview of Torbjorn Blomdahl he says that he plays 9 ball pretty well (shortstop speed from what I've heard), but that he prefers 3 cushion because it is the greatest challenge.http://www.caromtv.com/ click website features, freeviews and then blomdahl interview

I hold on to the hope that some day more of the modern players will realize this challenge and begin playing 3 cushion. I understand that this idealistic dream, but I will not be convinced that 3 cushion is not the greatest game.

It is true, sde, that three-cushion billiards should be an asset into playing better part of pool or muchless in this game, but (as mentioned by Ceulemans on that same webpage) there should be the prerequisites before playing 3C. What I am trying to project here is: will there ever be an American "Ronnie O'Sullivan" in snooker or will there ever be a great carom player (i.e. Blomdahl or Ceulemans) in America or is there an obsolite into these games and will be dominated by Pool (I am not protraying that Pool is bad either... :rolleyes: )?
 
Personally, I believe that we should have a resurgence of some of those old games. I also think that it will happen. Of course, it's not likely that it'll get widespread support. But, many of the stronger players would look forward to the opportunities to play the game varieties, and some already are.

That would be Dennis Diekman. He has a website that'll tell you about this cue(s). A person that has experienced with one of his massé cues would be psykoyow. Hopefully when the years go by and I get some moolah, I'll purchase one of those babies!
