Besides Oak and Rosewood what other butt wood was the titlist butts made of. Which has the best overall feel on how the hit before and after conversions. Just curious everyone opinions.
Don't forget walnut, wenge, mahogany, & several other rosewoods besides braz. that could be gotten in those days. Brunswick used anything that was hard & relatively stable & available. I did a conversion a couple of years ago that was angico (patagonian rosewood). It's most commonly used in floors, but found it in a Titleist. I did a conversion on one very old Bruns house cue that had a camatillo rosewood butt, so I assume Titleists were made from it as well. Like a box of chocolates
As for playability, it depends on each individual cue. After conversion playability depends on the quality of materials used & quality of conversion. I have built conversions from the late model walnut Titleists made in China, and they played great after completed. I have done rosewood, wenge, mahogany, purpleheart & ebony & none played better than another. Dark rosewood is my favorite in terms of asthetics.
