What bars are in chicago that have a good pool atmosphere. I went to Flat Iron yesterday and it was a great pool bar. 3 bar tables all with a long list of people waiting to play and everyone watching. What are some other bars in the city that have a similar competitive pool atmosphere. The Flat Iron isn't exactly my scene but definitely fun to play a little bit of pool against decent players.

It really depends on where you are in Chicago. Downtown there's not much, because the sq. ft. is too expensive. Although I have found Timothy O'Toole's to be pretty good. They have three bar boxes and lots of people playing them last time I was there.

I also liked Galaway Bay. It's a great neighborhood bar, always lots of people there, and usually there's a bunch of people lined up to play pool. For the most part they only play doubles... because there's only one table.

Of course if you want to play some higher level pool, Red Shoes is pretty good.

City Pool Hall in downtown Chicaog (640 W. Hubbard St.) has a great bar atmosphere, great food and very friendly patrons and wait staff.
I recommend going there.

I haven't been there in about 3 years but it is nostalgic and with money games to watch..I always enjoyed my time there...
Parts of The Color of Money movie was filmed there...

Pressure, where I play in Rogers Park (far northeast side, almost to Evanston) is a nice place. It's a pool hall on one side and a wifi cafe on the other. They've just added a full bar and some widescreens for sports on the cafe side, and the pool side has 13 9-foot Brunswicks. Nice crowd, league play a couple nights a week, decent food, but no high level play or gambling action.

Q billiard in Darien as much a sports bar as pool hall. Also Red Shoes in Alsip more pool hall than bar but has a full bar.. Then you have Pockets in Crestwood nice bar and plenty of pool.

Sad to say, but Chris' is officially a friggin dump. I have no desire to ever go there again....and probably won't....

Go to Red Shoes in South Burbs, or Pyramid Club, in Addison, now known as Pyramid Pizza and Sports bar,,,, Q in Darien is pretty good too.

Good bars with spirited competition, Cary's on Devon and Ten Cat on Ashland are good starts. If you're really into exploring the scene, as a general rule, any bar with league three nights or more is going to have a list of folks waiting to play on the weekends. Good luck!

The OP mentioned pool bars, rather than pool rooms, so I'll 2nd the Ten Cat recommendation...great little pool bar on the north side (very near Ashland and Irving Park).
