What are the cities with the best pool scene?

action

What cities have the best poolrooms, tournaments, action?

I have a weekly tournament that draws 20-20 players on sundays

and I try to play people who come through some type of way

there are also multiple people at my room who try people out for cheap.

As long as you're willing to drive, it's hard to beat Hard Times in Los Angeles. Any given day you'll see Santos, Morro, Ernesto and Oscar, Parica, a bunch of shortstops. Cheap table time. Small tourney's all week, weekends. Snooker tables, tournament room, carom tables. It's a real old-style pool room.

I agree, the only thing lacking is action. Otherwise its a great room, a shadow of what it was in 87-but still good.

I think Atlanta Mr Cues 2 is the busiest room in America, There is action in the South, Depends on what your looking for. West coast hardtimes is the spot.

Hello Shane,
my pick would be Buffalo Billiards in Metairie/New Orleans, Louisiana. Plenty of tables nice people working there. Two free tournaments a week and 1 is 9 ball and 1 is One Pocket. Lots of action every night. Last week they played for 40 bags of sand a set. Some nights only 6 bags of sand is played for. There is also a once a month the first Saturday of the month 9 ball handicapped tournament, $20.00 entry fee, and a big Calcutta. Great tables, and house cues. Cheap table time.
Several big name players and champions are always in there. Now you figure this one out for yourself! Is a great pool hall or what?
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Hello BBB,
See my post below this one. I have played all over in a lot of different cities. There are some large pool halls, nice pool halls, and good pool halls. But, Buffalo Billiards is a stand alone one of a kind pool hall! Thanks. They 2 movies in there last year. Movie studios rent Buffalo Billiards to make movies in there also, besides the movies that I mentioned that were made in there last year, above.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Phoenix az

Where in Phoenix?

I've been to mainstreet, kolbys, bullshooters, river city a bunch of bars and never see action. There's a lot of week and some weekend tourneys though if your good enough to make it.

Metro, cue & brew, skip & jans are on my list to visit too...

Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio both used to have a pretty decent scene some years back. Definately a little action. But I just recently moved back to Ohio after 13 years so not sure about now. I'm in NE Ohio, so I haven't made it south to check it out in years. Also have a buddy in Memphis who says the scene is good but you gotta watch where you go. Big problems with the gangs and drugs. I haven't personally played in Memphis so I can't speak from experience. Kinda looking for an up to date review on Ohio myself. New job so my travel time is limited for a bit.

I live in central Ohio and know a player in your area that I ran into about a month ago at a tournament down here. He said he was playing a lot and there was a lot going on up there including a new room opening in Akron? I might still have his gf's no. if you're interested, and want to know more, pm me.

If you can't find action at kolbys I don't know what to tell you. Maybe there was action and you didn't see it.

It's been a few years but every time I went in there I was getting clocked just playing an ugly game of 9 ball with a friend. If you want to gamble just ask, plenty there.

I know it won't be the first place that comes to most people's minds, but....

I lived in San Diego CA for 9 years. The last 5 of which I spent a lot of time playing amateur pool. After moving back to the Philadelphia area, I find myself missing the fields of green along the beaches of America's Finest City. Here's why:

- $5-$10 entry tournaments for 8- and 9- ball almost every night of the week in the greater SD area. Good turnout. Generally a congenial atmosphere, even in the bars.
- Wide variety of players. Local demographics provide a great cross-section of tweakers, drunks, punks, cowboys, surfers, professionals, college kids, transplants, Mexicans, Pinoys, Vietnamese, white-boys, etc. You can learn alot from each of them.
- Top notch, player-focused APA franchise. An example of a good operator and APA "done right". Educated and smart players, active singles programs, hosts regular regional tournaments.
- 5 or 6 well kept and managed billiards rooms all within a 30 min drive. And even more in neighboring Orange County and beyond.
- 2 or 3 quality local billiards retailers, and a few local table/cue manufacturers. Olhausen. Billiards Direct. Quality Billiards/West Coast Cues (Dave Whitsell). Bob Cues (Bob Renis).

I say it's a well supported and generally friendly community of pool geeks in San Diego.
