the tapers i know of are your pro taper.....which is the same diameter basically for a set number of inches then it gets larger towards the back. Then the european taper, where the taper progressively gets larger from ferrule to back. Then the conical taper, where the shaft progresses every inch or so from ferrule back in set increments. What are the other tapers out there?
If i had a shaft i absolutely loved....what would i need to measure with my calipers so i could have it duplicated? From the ferrule back say 15inches or so? Measure it every inch?
thanks

Pro-taper changes definition from zip code to zip code.
Would 2 thousandths per inch the first 12 inches of the shaft be NOT considered pro taper?
Measuring your shaft inch by inch the first 15 inches is a good way to get it duplicated.

When I had my Taper Bars made I got new shafts from a Mcdermott, Meucci, Schon, Southwest and Josh. I miked them every half inch and then extended the ferrule end of the taper bar an additional 5 inches at the ferrule end of the shafts size. I had a sixth taper bar made for my own taper which was a combination of a couple of the other bars.

There are many more tapers than there are names. There are probably hundreds of different tapers that are called a Pro Taper. Very fiew cue-makers use what is commonly thought of as a Pro Taper. Almost all shafts diameter starts increasing at the ferrule so as to keep the shaft from being to whippy. What each cue-maker tries to acheive in his shafts are an increase in diameter but still have the shaft feel comfortable sliding thru a closed bridge as most Americans use.

As far as I know, Americans are the only people who use a closed bridge. Many Snooker players believe Americans handicap themselves by using a closed bridge. They say the finger over the cue breaks a straight image of the cue and ball alignment.
