I set my personal best record of 6 racks in 9 ball with a cuetec housecue. I did not own a cue at the time and always rented the same cuetec housecue. The cue played "ok", but as I always say you can get used to anything...and I was really used to this cue. It was probably somewhat of a fluke, but I found the break spot, crushed the balls, parked whitey and had 6 easy runs on the 4 1/2 x 9. Period. It was really all in the success of the break more than shooting skills as my game has improved 10 times since then. Unfortunately I haven't strung anything above 3 racks since then. It was also unfortunate that I did this during a practice set.... My break is just tragic. I really need to buy a pool table someday so I can practice at home.
My personal best one pocket record is (and this was surely a fluke of the table) when I broke and ran two racks of one pocket (found a lucky break spot and always made a ball while leaving a break shot) in one-pocket during a gambling match with my old Tim Scruggs (we alternated break, but I broke and ran a rack - my opponent broke..we battled it out.., then I broke and ran the second consecutive rack where I broke). The TS cue had a steel joint and played real nice, and I did use a predator shaft. Since one-pocket is not a BREAK and run game, I will always remember doing this. What is truly funny about this, is that I had a horrible one pocket break at the time. I always hit the second ball MUCH too full, selling out a shot and spreading the balls too much. I COULD NOT have made those runs (even with pocketing a ball) if I broke the balls accurately. That is probably why I will never be able to do that again unless I try that Cory Dueul break.
I've never set a big straight pool run beyond breaking the 50 ball barrier ONCE. At the time I was in between cues and using someone's Predator BK Break Cue (the first one that came out) with a Moori Tip. The cue played good...but the balls were just rolling for me and I was pocketing well. I say that, because I ran the 50+ the HARD way (with horrible shot selection but great execution)...and just got plenty lucky. I never practiced straight pool enough, although I LOVE watching it played well.
So..those are my personal bests with the cues I used. Nothing spectacular....but I still laugh when I think that I had my highest run in 9 ball with a cuetec. Goes to show...it's not the cue, but the pool shooter (when all is said and done). I've seen some of the best pool played in person by people using a plain sneaky pete (the three that stand out are a TS Sneaky, an old Joss sneaky, and a player's Sneaky).
