What "cue" did you play your best pool with?

I set my personal best record of 6 racks in 9 ball with a cuetec housecue. I did not own a cue at the time and always rented the same cuetec housecue. The cue played "ok", but as I always say you can get used to anything...and I was really used to this cue. It was probably somewhat of a fluke, but I found the break spot, crushed the balls, parked whitey and had 6 easy runs on the 4 1/2 x 9. Period. It was really all in the success of the break more than shooting skills as my game has improved 10 times since then. Unfortunately I haven't strung anything above 3 racks since then. It was also unfortunate that I did this during a practice set.... My break is just tragic. I really need to buy a pool table someday so I can practice at home.

My personal best one pocket record is (and this was surely a fluke of the table) when I broke and ran two racks of one pocket (found a lucky break spot and always made a ball while leaving a break shot) in one-pocket during a gambling match with my old Tim Scruggs (we alternated break, but I broke and ran a rack - my opponent broke..we battled it out.., then I broke and ran the second consecutive rack where I broke). The TS cue had a steel joint and played real nice, and I did use a predator shaft. Since one-pocket is not a BREAK and run game, I will always remember doing this. What is truly funny about this, is that I had a horrible one pocket break at the time. I always hit the second ball MUCH too full, selling out a shot and spreading the balls too much. I COULD NOT have made those runs (even with pocketing a ball) if I broke the balls accurately. That is probably why I will never be able to do that again unless I try that Cory Dueul break.

I've never set a big straight pool run beyond breaking the 50 ball barrier ONCE. At the time I was in between cues and using someone's Predator BK Break Cue (the first one that came out) with a Moori Tip. The cue played good...but the balls were just rolling for me and I was pocketing well. I say that, because I ran the 50+ the HARD way (with horrible shot selection but great execution)...and just got plenty lucky. I never practiced straight pool enough, although I LOVE watching it played well.

So..those are my personal bests with the cues I used. Nothing spectacular....but I still laugh when I think that I had my highest run in 9 ball with a cuetec. Goes to show...it's not the cue, but the pool shooter (when all is said and done). I've seen some of the best pool played in person by people using a plain sneaky pete (the three that stand out are a TS Sneaky, an old Joss sneaky, and a player's Sneaky).

All for now. Share your stories!

No question it was with my old Helmstetter.
Incidently this was before I knew of interent forums and custom cues :D

That being said, my Joss with Universal shaft is one straight shooter and now, within a couple of weeks, I can add my Webb to the list.

It was a Valley bar cue..........16 oz, straight as glass........that cue would spread the rack consistently like I have never been able to since. I paid the house $10 bucks for it.........took it home........when I broke up with her (or maybe I got kicked out) it got left behind. Sad.......this was all many years ago.(disclaimer in case my wife reads)

I posted this on another thread a month or so ago...but... the best night of pool I ever shot was with a cue a friend of mine loaned me one night. It was a $64.00 Viper cue he had purchased at an Academy Sports & Outdoors store. I don't remember running out any racks that night, but when the smoke cleared, I was undefeated in both 8 and 9-ball. I was moving that ball around with that stick like a high-dollar whore on a rich man!!! I rember one time I drew the cue ball back the entire length of the table opposite corner to corner for a perfect shot on the 8-ball that was frozen on the rail. That was probably the best-hitting cheap cue I have ever used.
I sometimes wonder what makes one cheap production cue hit way better than the rest of them (sometimes so good, it's eerie  )

Third One

It was the third cue I ever built. Simple cue, tulipwood butt and forearm with a birdseye handle. I shot the best with that cue for some reason, possibly luck. I played a whole season of Wed. and Thur. night league with that one and had the best year I've ever had. I've had a few years since and a few cues and have not come close to that year. I should have kept it but as my cue making skill level went up I just figured something a little more flashy would be good advertising.

I think I am playing the best I have ever played right now and I am using a custom Pechauer with a non-steel joint. It is the perfect weight for my stroke and I wouldnt trade it for anything......:D

From the late 70's to the early 90's it was my palmer Model "A".
I won the Florida Sunshine open 8 ball tournament twice with it, many local
8 and 9 ball tournaments and played Steve Cook 1P with it. Steve, Lefty and myself were the only guys around here with Palmers. It was like being in a Fraternity.:)

Meucci Originals

Back in the day when the Meucci Originals were first class quality, I was knocking the eyes out of'em with one. Quit for several years, and it hasn't been the same since. I was actually so accustomed to the whippiness, that I had learned to use it to my advantage. I also played with an Auerbach that was as awesome as any I've ever shot with in a LOOOONG time.

I still suck but I'm probably playing my best right now. Simply because I slow down and think more. I'm not sure the cue has anything to do with it. Although I am partial to Schon cues.

Without a doubt my old Helmstetter cue, but for the cues i own now it's my Falcon built fullsplice Predator sneaky. Just something about this cue works for me.

the best night i had shooting pool was in a local tournament in the first round with my first cue, a Players Butterfly Sneaky. it was 9 ball, race to 5, call the 9. i b&r the first rack...made the 9 on the second...and ran the remaining 3. this was my first and most meaning full 5 pack..it was agianst our local "top shooter". to put him in the loosers bracket without him shooting was cool, altho i lost the next set and a couple rounds before the money we faced again and i got to shoot twice in the set. didnt place in the money but it was a good night...still have that cue, prolly the best players i think i will ever shoot with :)

With my current Tim Scruggs I've been shooting the best pool of my life. Very solid, not too stiff and everything in that cue suits my shooting style. Also, I've owned 2 Bear cues (production cue, not Mark Bear) and my game improved a whole lot when I bought both cues. With the TS cue, I've managed to fine-tune my game to its current level.
