what cue for $2000-$3000?

say you got that much money burning a hole in your pocket..and heck, it is xmas time (can i say xmas?) ..from what i see a used cue on this forum seems safe, so, what cue would you buy for the "hit" and looks?

If I felt I had to spend $2K - $3K for a playing cue, I would buy a nice Tascarella for a SS jointed cue or I'd look for a nice Scruggs big pin flat faced jointed cue (one of those right here)http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=292140&highlight=Scruggs It's the Bushka style with the ivory joint.
These would be very good purchases as you probably won't lose $$$ if you want to sell in the future.

For 2-3k I'd be looking for looks, hit and ROI. Tad, Tasc, Mottey, SW, Peterson(good luck), Bluegrass. Personally, I think the sweet spot is 1500-2000. I suggest putting a WTB up with your specs and price range. It's a buyers market. I like Runde's stuff, lots of work and a solid cue for 1500-2000. His ivory jointed cues can be amazing. Never been a fan of Scruggs, but I do like Mike Cochran's stuff. Too many choices.

if I had $2K - $3K for a playing cue ? a Barenbrugge. Martin's (jazznpool) cocobolo/bem Barenbrugge . a rarity & a superb playability, will be a classy player. you won't be disapointed.

I see you are in my area. Come by and see if I have something in the works that might interest you. You can hit with a cue or two and see how my cues play. If I don't have anything already made or in the works that fits you, I might have a used cue that would fit your needs. I have a really nice 4 point with veneers, loaded with Ivory and burl wood handle and burl wood points that is waiting for the final touches that would be in the lower end of your budget or could be pushed up to the higher end of your budget with some handle inlays.
 
For the money and looking down the road at some thing you could recoup your orginal investment from id look at a Southwest. You can get a sweet cue on here for that. Scruggs as some one said. But its a buyers market now. There is a sweet wrapless Bender in the foresale, a Lambros etc.
 
You'll have a lot of fun at around 2~3k range.
With that budget, you're in range for the majority of cuemaker's work.


What type of 'look' do you like? Spliced or floating points?
Traditional style (ex: Scruggs, Black, Tascarella, James White), something more contemporary (ex: McDaniel, Cognoscenti, Josey), something in between (ex: Sugar Tree, Bender, Barenbrugge, Lambros), or something that's really simple and elegant (ex: plain Gina, simple Prewitt, South West). Tons of good deals on FS section now. There are a lot more choices than what I've listed as examples. It'd be pretty tough to not get your money back when you resale in good condition.

I've bolded ones I'd consider.

All the cue makers I've listed produce very good to great playing cues.
 
No one has mentioned Bill Schick. Hall of fame cuemaker and his cues are the best playing IMHO. Its hard to find nice Shick's in that price range but, I do know a cue dealer who usually has a few around that upper limit. Incredible cues!!!

Schick makes or made a great cue how ever like you stated for his price range he will get a pretty basic cue although a great player. I have never played one but he can get a Lambros for that price and I have heard good things about Lambros. Actually for that $$$ if he checks the for sale he can pick up a great cue.Barry, Shick,Taz,Searing, Hercek,Hayley,etc would all be basic if at all.Tommy T has a sweet wrapless Bender for close to that price andMikes cues play and his craftsmanship is on par with any of the above. I once asked Bill Schick what he thought of Mike Bender as cue maker his response was"Mike Bender is one of the top cue makers in the world". Id say that is quite high praise considering the source.

I got my one of my Schicks with some ivory and a lot of gold inlays, pretty fancy for $200 over his range--so you can get some bargains.

I agree Mike Bender is also a great cuemaker. You can't go wrong with either.

I HAVE SEEN A COUPLE OF CRAZY INSANE TASCARELLA'S THAT YOU COULD BE IN BED WITH

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED SEARCHING FOR A SCHICK? :smile:

If I were you i would buy a southwest first since they are the best hitting and hold there value almost as good then a low end tascarella next since they hit great as well
 
I agree that Tommt T's Bender is one of the best dealers here not cheap but its in his ball park and a steal at that price for a top builder and player.
