What Differnce Does the Tip Make for Your Game

I know that there is no one correct answer to this, but generally speaking, is a softer tip better for me? I tend to not hit very hard very often. I guess I'm wondering will a softer tip allow for better "english" with the softer style of hitting that I use primarily. (I play on 9-footers primarily, usually 8-ball.) In any sort of appreciable sense. I realize the only real answer is to try it and see.

I have an Everest currently, since it's what came with the cue. Having read through this thread (and many others, heh) I'm wondering which way I should go when I do get around to having the tip changed.
