What do Ewa Lawrence, Belinda Campos, Jeannie Seaver, Fran Crimi, and others have in

Well, the Pro Golfers just had their PGA Championship (sorry, Players Championship)... with the richest purse. 8.4 MILLION dollars. $1.44 million to the winner. EIGHTY THIRD place made just under $14,000.

But, you know what? They had 140 professional golfers show up at the tournament. After 2 days they cut to the top 70 players (plue ties). Nearly half did not "make the cut". Those who missed the cut got paid zero dollars. They played poorly and they did not make any money. (And these included some big names, like the winners of two of last year's four major tournaments.)

In team sports you get paid to play. In individual sports you do not. (Unless you're Tiger Woods and they pay you a $3 million dollars "appearance fee" to come over seas and play in their tournament.)

What do they all have in common? And here I thought you were going to say that none of them can seem to win a WPBA event. ;)

Jimmy M. gets an "A" and goes to the head of the class.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, including Doomcue, I am not putting any of the pros down. Especially Sarah. And she sure did prove that she is a Champion by beating the woman rated #3 in the World - Helena. It shows that if she can beat Helena, then she can compete with any of them. And I don't even have to watch her play to know that she is good. Her rating by her peers says it all.

I was just asking the question why a person would subject themselves to such a rigorous task with such small compensation. It is one thing to follow your dream and enjoy yourself doing it but at some point you have to set priorities in life and be realistic about your chances of attaining your goals. Unless you only live for the here and now.

But whatever the answer is I am glad that I can watch them play. They sure do bring joy to my life.

I sure do wish FL would come back. Nobody picked on me when he was here. He absorbed all the barbs. I have a tender ego and it bruises easily.

RX for pool

Come now Jake! What you have is a minor affliction. Something like a 24 hour stomach flu or a back spasm. Something that can be cured by a little sleep and a couple of hours playing pool and maybe a good meal with a loved one. The other thing you talk about was more a serious illness that needed surgical procedure. Just relax and try to be more tolerant of others.
