What do Players do about eating while Playing

i dont have tourney experience but in league play.. all the clubs and bars provide pizza in the middle of the game. I cant eat before or during a match. As far as practice goes I often times order a small sub while practicing and as soon as it shows up my game takes a nose dive as all I can think about is the sub lol SO I think id be in the group that has to eat prior to the game and then perhaps a small small snack during the event. Luckily I have a bad stomach and dont drink alcohol and I dont smoke so I have a leg up it seems. Although the only excercise i get these days is at the table :(

This topic came up recently at a pool tournament and I heard two pro's (men) state that they don't eat anything the day they play until the tourney is over. I also happened to notice in Vegas that Karen Corr was eating a banana 5 min before her match started. LOL, if I ever start trying to play this game again I might have to invest in some banana's to take to the pool hall... I'm going to need all the help I can get!

i also believe in that same convo......they stated foods to stay away from the day before........foods like steak and such that take a while to digest.

me personally.......i eat a big breakfest quite a while before the tourney.......then something light, like a small sandwich or a candybar just to keep from getting really hungry, but not enough that i get slow and lazy.

thanks

also one thing I learned while shooting handgun and rifles - stay away from caffeine as it causes your muscles to twitch slightly and could potentially throw off your shots.

bananas What pool hall u play at sell's bananas lol I not going to get kicked out because i brought some bananas.. get some jerky from the counter or a candy bar lol bananas must be a DARK pool hall to hide those..

True, no pool hall in the world sells any fruit, but the owners wouldn't give you trouble if you brought some with you I'm sure. But just to be on the safe side, I keep those in the my car parked nearby anyway...:) Just 3 of them is enough for me to last the whole day. If it's a very hot day, I might bring my own juice, but that would absolutely have to be hidden in a car, LOL.

I get a big fat juicy hamburger and eat with one hand while playing with one hand it gets tricky when I get thirsty!!! :D

how do you guys think energy drinks like red bull would affect you?

Power drinks do absolutely nothing for me! No more power or energy than I had before to me they are a waste of money!!

"how do you guys think energy drinks like red bull would affect you?"

although i dont know for sure I think drinks like redbull have caffeine in them that gives you a "jolt" (pun intended as it was another high caffeine drink [sorry im tired I thought it was funny]) So it should make you a little jittery and twitchy and I would avoid it. Instead do what they mentioned and have some fruit juice to get some sugars on board. Luckily again for me lol my stomach wont let me have caffeine anymore either so im safe here too.

Hot dogs. I love hot dogs. Easy to eat, not too messy. They have good food where I play (DannyK's), but no hot dogs.

I was in the Navy back in the late '60's, so I played a lot at the enlisted men's clubs. One time I was playing straight pool with someone I didn't know. I got hungry and decided I wanted a couple hot dogs. They looked so good and were so cheap, I got three of them, with mustard and onions and steamy buns, all wrapped up in white paper. Yum.

I scarfed one down and got a start on a second one, then took my turn at the table. After I missed, I came back to my seat, and noticed that my third hot dog had vanished, along with my opponent. He just ran off with it. Couldn't believe it.

red bull gives me the shakes slightly. i don't notice it until i'm shooting a shot, and i notice my hands tremble slightly when i've been drinking red bull.

Its probably the caffine. I used to drink loads of coffee before, so now whenever i drink anything with more caffine than a cup of tea, my hands tremble like crazy. Since ive been cutting down my caffine intake, my hands havent been as shaky.

Pool Food

For many years I have been using ... peanuts before and maybe a couple of Hershey bar chunks during matches.. great protein and a little sugar while you're playing...
I usually drink water during...I like bananas, so one with my peanuts on occasion...
A good breakfast with real food could get you thru the day ...if you don't play too early.

special note** if you should ever get "seasick"...peanuts/hershey bars and coke or pepsi, do wonders when you are getting an upset stomach!
