What do you do when waiting for a custom cue?

About a month ago I finally decided that it was time for me to get a new cue, I love my Mali and I'll probably never get rid of it and I was thinking about getting it refinished and getting a new shaft made but then I thought about how I would be spending more than I paid for the cue and maybe it wasn't worth it, you know kinda like restoring a 1993 Toyota Corola. Anyway, I decided on getting a custom cue I visited some websites and searched this forum and others and decided between Dominiak and Viattore and with input from members of this forum (thanks guys), a couple of phone calls and some emails I decided on getting a cue from Jackson Tan at Viattorre cues.
It was real exciting at first knowing that I was getting a cue made just for me, its going to have a similar look to the 5280 MH02 minus the linen wrap, but now its dawning on me that I really do have to wait 3-4 months for it. After reading all of the good reviews about Viattorre cues I couldn't wait to get mine so I could be saying the same things, but crap I gatta wait 4 months. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. How do you guys deal with waiting for a custom cue? Or did it not phase you? I guess I've been spoiled by this on demand world of the internet and UPS overnight shipping and online order tracking. But I guess good things come to those who wait. But still the waiting, crap.

I ordered one from Dave Jacoby. The wait was a little tough but it wasn't that bad. Just continue to play pool and have fun. I don't know it this will happen to you or not but I had a heck of a time adjusting to my custom cue. I played like sh-- with it when I first got it! It took me 3 or 4 weeks of steady practicing before I got used to it. I was getting ready to switch back to my Pechauer when I finally started hitting good with it. Now I love it and can't imagine shooting with anything else.

best thing to do is forget about them, and after two years have rolled by, call them up and ask them what the f*ck is going on with your order.

Hey Dreco, congrats on getting a new cue. Be glad that its only 4 months now. Jack's cues are in a high demand now, the waiting time might go bonkers anytime. Yea like what bruin70 said, just forget about it first.

i dont mind the wait,,,,,,,it gives me time to pump up some more cash, after all barry has already made me two

You can twiddle your thumbs while waiting... :)

Seriously though, 4 months isnt that long. Besides, you can get updates from Jack via pictures.

Give him a call or email him and ask for a username and password for his website. That will give you access to your own "Cue Order Status" page. Jack will put up pictures of your cue as it is being made. Makes the wait bearable, I tell you. :)

My Phillippi cue with 4 ebony points, a BEM butt and no inlays took about 4 months to complete and was delivered on time. Until then I shot with another cue. Personally I would have difficulty waiting years for either a Southwest or a Tad, to name a couple of high end sticks.

4 mos and yer bitchin. I'm on Joel Hercek's list. It was a five year list when I got on. I'm down to just under 4 years.

When I was waiting for my Viattorre I never really noticed the long wait. I only got anxious when Jackson told me my cue was on its way. I started the process all over again as soon as I got my first Viattorre. Talk about torture.

Believe me, waiting for a custom cue without any updates is even more unbearable. At least with Viattorre, u would get some pics of your cue in progress from time to time. Definitely makes the wait more bearable.

Remind me of the Searing cue I've ordered "awhile" back.. anyway the unbearable feeling is gone after I changed my mentalility to "the cue is NOT coming".

Snookered <== is all in your mind.

I know that I should consider myself lucky, a friend of mine was trying to convince me to go talk to Dennis Searing but then when I heard that the wait was like 2 years that killed that idea for me. I think as soon as Jackson gets started on it and puts the pictures up of my cue in the making I'll probably feel a little different. I'm just real excited and anxious cause I think that this is going to be first really good cue, my first cue was a $60 Excalibur, my second was a $100 Mali now I'm getting a cue made to my specs by a really good cuemaker, I'm really looking forward to getting it.

I waited for half a year for my Capone. During that time I pushed the thought away from my mind that the cue is coming and didn't think about it at all. The cue was absolutely incredible, too bad it doesn't belong to me anymore. Had to sell it...

How long is Barry Szambotis line nowadays ? I've heard that Southwest has a 5-10 year wait list...

I would suggest playing pool with your Mali to pass the time. :) The waiting only makes the delivery that much sweeter.

from what I understand Barry Szamboti has a ten year waiting list and is at the moment not taking orders,,,,,,,,,,,now thats a wait

waiting. . .waiting still. . .

Yeah, I know the feeling. I hope that in the next seven years, Laurie (southwest cues) will still know where to find me. I'm not worried about the wait (I have other cues for now) but I'm more worried about the fact that I may move or change phone numbers in the next seven years and forget to update my information with her (as I will be pushing the idea of waiting on my cue out of my head and just look at it as a surprise when she finally calls me.)

The wait is not too bad if you know up front it will be 4 months. At least he was honest with you. Assuming he delivers it on time. Some cuemakers will lie to you to get your business and tell you a delivery date they know they won't meet. I am still waiting for my cue that was slated to be finished by the end of the year! And when you give that cuemaker a fairly large deposit, you tend to get a little edgy waiting. The worst case scenario is if you go past your delivery date and the cuemaker has poor communication with you. Like not returning your calls or emails for weeks or months at a time. My suggestion, talk to someone who has purchased from the cuemaker in the past and ask a few questions. Good luck and it may take you a few weeks to get used to how it plays but then stick with it.
