What do you do when waiting for a custom cue?

I don't have any worries about not getting my cue in 3-4 months like Jackson said, he has a real good reputation with his past customers and he answers his phone and reponds to my emails pretty quickly. He's a real nice guy to work with.

I can say Jackson is a man of his word. He won't try to cheat you or lead you on. If he can't deliver on the time he gave you, he'll tell you right away and explain why. He's definitely not one of the many cuemakers I've corresponded with who believe they're God's gift to the world.

Hercek Waiting List

I knew Hercek had a long waiting list probably 4-5 years but didn't how long until someone I know talked to him and said the wait has now gone up to 10 years. Amazing.

4 mos and yer *****in. I'm on Joel Hercek's list. It was a five year list when I got on. I'm down to just under 4 years.

I waited a year and a half on my Mottey, a year on my James White and I'm pretty sure SouthWest has an 8 year waiting list at the moment. 3 or 4 months isn't a challenge.

About a month ago I finally decided that it was time for me to get a new cue, I love my Mali and I'll probably never get rid of it and I was thinking about getting it refinished and getting a new shaft made but then I thought about how I would be spending more than I paid for the cue and maybe it wasn't worth it, you know kinda like restoring a 1993 Toyota Corola. Anyway, I decided on getting a custom cue I visited some websites and searched this forum and others and decided between Dominiak and Viattore and with input from members of this forum (thanks guys), a couple of phone calls and some emails I decided on getting a cue from Jackson Tan at Viattorre cues.
It was real exciting at first knowing that I was getting a cue made just for me, its going to have a similar look to the 5280 MH02 minus the linen wrap, but now its dawning on me that I really do have to wait 3-4 months for it. After reading all of the good reviews about Viattorre cues I couldn't wait to get mine so I could be saying the same things, but crap I gatta wait 4 months. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. How do you guys deal with waiting for a custom cue? Or did it not phase you? I guess I've been spoiled by this on demand world of the internet and UPS overnight shipping and online order tracking. But I guess good things come to those who wait. But still the waiting, crap.

Think up the design for your next cue(s). I don't have a broad cue taste but yet I can come up with so many designs in my head. I am waiting on a few cues but right now what I'm excited about is a simple tuxedo cue motif design I just came up with. I could post a pic of the design in a new thread but I'm worried it might get stolen :o

Hi John,

he ordered the cue in 2004. I do believe that he's already been playing with it for a while, and possibly already owns a new one, if he got the bug ;-)

Detlev

Oh! Why in the world did this thread come up!? Oh well. He probably is playing with a different cue. Why bother getting a custom cue that's a copy of a production cue anyway.

I agree with catscradle. play lots, polish your fundamentals, and by the time the stick arrives, hopefully it will be as happy with you as you are with it. It's great having something to look forward to.

I've ordered a few new cues and it's torture waiting for the new cue and hoping it will turn out like you picture it in your mind. I've ordered from Tim Scruggs, Keith Josey, and Paul Mottey and they all delivered outstanding cues. I still have a Paul Mottey now and I really enjoy the cue a lot.

I work, eat, sleep, play some pool, have sex, get sick, get better, ride my bike, ride my motorcycle, take the dogs for a walk, fight with my wife, work around the house, watch my daughters volleyball tournaments, etc, etc, etc.......

Then one day.....my custom cue arrives!!

:D

Russ.....

Well at least you did not send out your Mali ( Sent out my Meucci Original that was my shooter ) and order a custom. It just so happens that my Custom JUST came in and am still waiting for my Meucci :).

I ordered a Soutwest in 1999 and still have a year left. If anyone wants a great cue without the long wait, call Scott Sherbin. He's the most under rated cuemaker in the business and great to work with.

I went ahead and sold my shooter after talking to Mike Cochran and got a cue in the works. Of course the wait now without my cue is killing me I went out and bought a cheap cheap cheap banger that felt solid enough to not let me forget the feel of a cue. Of course I call every so often more for chit-chat than cue progress as Mike is a great guy to chew the fat with but he never hesitates with an answer about my cue, never trying to beat around the bush. I can say I couldn't be happier, even if the wait is torture....It is kind of sweet....or maybe I'm just a little more sick in the head than I thought

build a time machine and go back to when botis were $ 175 bucks , fly forward to now and rape people for thousands .

I have been on SAouthwest's list for over 8 years now for an ultra fancy all engraved one. Talked to her the other day she said they arn't going to make anymore for awhile so we can put your name back in the list for a standard one if you like or just wait untill we decide to start making fancy ones agian. So tell me this do I have to start my 8 year wait again? she said no but I didn't get a rough date either, So I will wait a few more month's then call her see were I am at.

I like to forget about the cues I have on order this way when they come in the mail it's like I have 2,3,5,even 10 birthday's a year sometimes.
