What do you do when your stroke goes south?

Willie Mosconi said concentration is the number one secret in pool, or something to that effect.

I've noticed that after playing for 4 hours or so of intense pool that my stroke and concentration go out the window, and anything more than a little bit difficult in terms of shotmaking becomes very iffy.

What's the solution at these times? How do you handle this?

for me the secret to this was to find exactly what it was I start or stop doing when my game seems to hiccup after a long session. One night i sat there and tried to think what did the object ball look like after i hit it, how did I miss the shot, did i cut it too much or not enough?.........and then it hit me, I didnt know how I hit the ball because I didnt stay down to look at it and there it was.......i was jumping up when i got tired. So you have to figure out what youre doing wrong and a way to short circuit it.

Much shorter stroke.

Choke up on the cue and not as much follow through.

Go home and get some rest!

I'll try that first suggestion! That second one is not so easily obtained however... :D

AFTER 4 hours my stroke is dead on, but it keeps getting better up till that point.

When your stoke is off or your aim isn't right, you have to stick to it and adjust and play through it.

I used to call it a day and quit, but you gotta stay with it till you sort it out...

Try eating something and drinking some water. Do you have back trouble? Your stroke can suffer from tired muscles.

If your stroke gets worse the longer you play, I guarantee you that your muscles start to get tired and your arm is tightening up to keep it steady, or it's too loose because of the fatigue. Try stretching before playing, see what happens.
