What do you guys know about Jatoba. What's it like to work with? How have you used it?

Jatoba

I got some from Bell Forrest in a package deal they had on eBay one time. Somewhat heavy. Don't know if there are more figured pieces, but what I got was "uninteresting". I turned one piece and it cuts cleanly. Somewhat grainy. I think I'll just use it for a handle where I want more weight than maple.

He ran a nite club on Tattoonie and Han Solo owed him money. A really big, slimy type dude. Hope this helps

What he said.

I may add that I use a large round to stick through the headstock to tap out my taper adapter. A very worth use of the wood.

I actually do have some curly jatoba, small squares suitable for point blanks, but that is the only figured pieces of jatoba I have ever seen.

I know that guy.

Jatoba Hymenaea courbaril comes from Brazil.
Brazilian cherry (jatoba) is frequently used where good shock resistance is needed, such as in wood flooring and tool handles.

It is also good to use as a core for light woods to maintain your weight and ballance.

I've used it as a forearm and hits solid... the pieces I got has mix of brown and black streaks. Not as figured as other rosewoods, but he hit more than compensates for the look.

Thanks
