What do you own and what do you shoot with

I have owned and shot with about ten of what are considered the upper echelon cue makers cues, the longest stint with a cue Gus made me. I catch myself with 3-4 cues at a time and i can justify a back up cue but why so many. I know I am not the only individual here that appricates the quality workmanship and hit of a top cue maker. I will be honest the cues i have had have all had a good hit but I can not honestly say that one of them stood out from the others. I actually find myself playing most of my pool with a Perry Weston that has a full splice butt that he purchased and finished. My question to the many here is of all the cues you have a choice of playing with what do you play and why.

A 25 year old Schon R12/15 because it is perfectly balanced (for me) and feels like an extension of my arm. Probably due mostly in part to being my main player for all these years. The only other cue I have that feels that good in my hands is a Scruggs. Both cues are piloted 5/16x14 steel jointed cues.

I have several cues including a few great playing SW's but I play with my Sailor/Burton Spain butt topped with a Predator Z2 shaft.

My reason is simple.. I like a lite weight cue and this one comes in at 17.4 oz.

I'd love to have one made at about 16.5. I have a Predator sneaky that weights about that much with the bolt removed but I don't like the balance with the bolt gone.

1) Whatevers on the wall.
2) Inexpensive Mc D with a leather wrap that seems to play just right (if only I did too)
3) A 1978 $15 54" (actually now it's 55") hollowed out cane cue from the state fair that I've sanded down, repainted (Honda metallic poly black I believe), and polished the brass on, did away with the ball cane handle part, added a weighted bumper to make it 19oz.
Just need to get a good cheap ferrule and triangle tip and it's set!:grin-square::grin::o:confused:

Terry <what can I say.....I'm cheap:grin:

I've owned and used the same Joss since 1986, I know its a 1986 because it says 1986 on the joint collar, its a little unusual looking with rounded points but I have never found anything I liked better so why mess with perfection.

It used to get a lot of attention back in the day but no much anymore with all the unique designs you see anymore it doesn't draw that much attention.

My biggest 9 ball run is with an Andy Gilbert cue. The first time I tried one, I ran 4 racks. I play a lot with my avitar Gilbert. I also love my Schick, Cantando and Mottey. I even break out an Abe Rich once in a while. So I play with several cues. I enjoy using all my cues more than I do the edge that comes with only using one cue all the time. But to best answer your question, if I were shooting for my life, I would want my Richard Black.

My main player is the cue Bill Schick made for me in 1990. It's perfect in every regard. Bill is a true master, and to me, one of the greatest cuemakers of all time.

I play with a predator using a 314 shaft. I've considered getting a z2, because the tip size is close to that of a snooker tip.

For snooker I use a John Parris cue.

Own:
Palmer model M from 2nd catalog

Jacoby J-2 with original and Tiger X shafts

Keith Josey, 4 points, BEM, 2 shafts

and...a McD plain jane with McD emblemed 1-1 Porper case...just picked all up in a local pawn shop for $100, had the red chalk dyed shaft cleaned & retipped with a lepro tip.

I play with the Josey, but may take the McD set the next time...a less conspicuous image, and it played pretty well after the new tip. I'll see how it goes.

I seem to constantly look for that perfect arrow, but deep inside I know I should just play and practice more and settle on one main playing cue.

I own two Dale Perry cues which I shoot with a 314-2 shaft. I am waiting on a Carolina Custom to be made for me right now.

I'm actually quite excited as I have never had a cue made for me before. When I get the CC I will have a DP for sale with an OB-1 shaft if anyone is interested.

I own....let's see... a few old D-series McDermotts, a few Meucci Originals, and old Viking or two, an old Huebler sneaky pete, a Pechauer, a Blud sneaky, an old Schuler, an Espritu, I'm sure there's a few others I can't remember, plus a number of housecue conversions I've done, as well as my playing/breaking cues that I made.

I very rarely play with any cue but my "regular" player, which is a cue that I built. I know people who play with different cues on a very regular basis, but I'm mostly a "one playing cue" guy.

I play with a PFD. It was made for me by Paul Drexler. It was one of the first cues he made and I'm pleased to say, he made me a great cue. I can give you a little advice here. A cue is a fine instrument. Much like a violin or other delicate instrument it takes time to get used to playing the one your playing. Jumping from cue to cue doesn't give you the time to get used to any one cue. Find the one you like the most and stick with it at least a year.

my choice

I own:

Tim Scruggs
Mike Guylassy
South West
Russ Espiritu
Lambros

I played with my TS for about two years and had no reason to switch since I loved the cue. Then I found the wanted for sale section on AZ and my life has been hell every since. Too many good deals to pass up and now everytime I go to my locker I want to play with a different one.

The lambros is my current choice, however my SW is calling my name and I see myself going back to her for awhile.

The only playing cue I currently own is my 1993 Dan Dishaw. One of the first 12 cues he ever made. I bought the cue in '95, IIRC. I had seen it and hit with it when the original owner brought it to the pool room to play in the NYS 9 Ball Championship. A year later, the same guy sold the cue to a local who was at the time living both in Charlotte, NC and Binghamton, NY. I bought it from the second owner a few months later. I had Dan make me two new shafts and later replaced the leather wrap with Irish linen. It continues to play a lot like my two Southwests, which is why I bought it. At the time, you could get one of Dan's cues new for less than a Southwest and a lot less wait time. My last one was 3 1/2 years. I have about $600 in the Dishaw and that includes the two new shafts and replacing the wrap. I've since owned two Gulyassys, an Andy Gilbert, a Murray Tucker, and a Meucci with a black dot shaft. The Dishaw is the only one I still have.
