I have a higher end McDermott that I love.
I have a best of line Lucasi that I like.
Mcdermott's are guaranteed and supposedly are made in America.
Lucasi is made overseas. My Lucasi is definitely a stiffer hitting
cue than my McDermott.

I've had a basic McDermott for >20 yrs. The shaft is still straight, the joint is still tight, the hit is still firm with great feel. I now have a number of other sticks and only use this one to break with, but it still feels good to me and I'll never get rid of it. Just one man's two cents worth...

Either one of those cues will play great. The differences between the two are that lucasi will have a stiffer hit with the steel joint, and the mcd will have a softer hit with the wood to wood joint. So i guess it all depends on what kind of hit you prefer. But you cant go wrong with the mcdermott and the lifetime warranty, and if you care, its made in the usa.

hmm im such a pool newbie

I only play at home on my 8ft and i might go to bars and clubs to play in the next few years. Could anyone describe the soft and hard hit thing further?

could anyone explain this soft and hard hit thing further?

what the advantages of having a hard hit ?
what the advantages of having a soft hit ?

There's no advantage or disadvantage there. It's all a matter of what feels better to you as an individual. Its about what feels better in your hands after you strike the ball. The only way youre gonna know what feels better to you is to try both. If you dont have friends with cues that you can try out then go to your local cue or billiards store and most of them will allow you to hit a couple of balls with the new cue's. Grab one with a stainless joint and one with a wood to wood joint and compare them for yourself. They'll probably even have mcd's and lucasi's there for you to try. Good luck.
