I know this shot may not be a big deal and may appear simple to a lot of us. but I believe it takes an imagination to consider this option of a shot and not just bang away. what do you think of the person's speed who considers this and makes this shot? is he a banger or a C player? the guy got a strong drawing power and seems to play with it most often. he often considers caroming off balls when the opportunity is given.

sorry, kinda new at using the illustration. what happened was the CB hits the 3 with some 7 o' clock draw shot caroming off to the 9.

All I got was a link to the CueTable diagram not the diagram itself. When I clicked on the link, I got the diagram of the layout, but no lines showing the shot that you refer to.

However, in just viewing the layout, here is how I would play it. It's a 3 ways shot. Bank the 3 ball cross side and draw the CB back trying to clip the 9 in for the win and if not MAYBE catch shape on the 4 ball but if not almost certainly end up with an excellent safety opportunity...assuming you make the bank.

If you miss the bank, you would have an excellent chance of leaving the opponent safe behind the cluster that would form near the lower left corner pocket.

I don;t see any other shot with nearly the same potential.

I edited my first post to explain the shot. sorry , it's my first time to use the diagram and it seemed that the lines that I had drawn wasn't saved. In anyway, it was almost the same idea. putting the 3 ball far to the lower right side of the table while attempting to pocket the 9 with a draw and at the same time a safety option.

PS (the edit button didn;t work)...I suppose you could draw back off the 3 into the 4 hoping it would kiss in off the 7 or 9 But the 3 ball bank doesn't look on if you tried that shot and there would be little chance to drain the 9 that way so you turn a 3 way shot into a 1 way shot with your next OB (assuming you pocket the 4) being the 3 ball that will end up god knows where.

Regards,
Jim

I think this is a good example of the advantage of playing other games. Any carom (or English billiards) player would immediately see the draw shot to the nine ball with no imagination required. The real question is how to aim the shot, and there are systems for that.

This is another possible shot. If you use too much draw on the 3 carom to 9 shot, then the cue ball could follow the 9 ball into the pocket, resulting in a scratch. Caroming off the 4 to the 9 ball would reduce the risk of scratching.

thanks Bob, but the player who did this shot was a rotation player. I guess playing rotation is really an advantage. you learn a lot of stuff.
