I dont really remember what anyone scored last year as I
did not play.

What do you think you will score? I know everyone will be aiming to do their
best but what are your goals? Do you have any?

Mine..

I would like to see progress over the length of the program but it is
short and I dont know if it will be long enough to show.
I hope some trouble shots come out so that I can see them.
I would like to see consistent scores per rack rather than a few
very good ones and a very really bad ones. I think that will be decision
making and concentration.
I used to play Fargo some but never really kept records. I dont know how
I will score but I am going to say that my averages (goals) will be...
Big table -- 575-600
Bar table-- 650+
Going to do it on both sizes.

With the scoring chart I see it as being this
0-150 - Recreational Player D player - begginer -banger
151-300 - Intermediate Player C- player
301-450 - Advanced Player B - PLayer
451-600- Developing Pro B+ --- A-
601-800 - Semi-Pro Solid A player, top tier local level
801-900 - Pro Top tier regional and in the national level
901-1000 - Touring Pro Top tier national

Big gap past 600.

FranknSouthernOregon,
Excellent question, considering our whole society is completely infatuated with trying to predict the future (ie. weather forecasts, political forecasts, business forecasts, sports picks, Accu-Stats commentators) - its a very weird world.

I'm trying for 800. Since it is only 5 sessions, I'm going to practice the game for a few sessions before playing for keeps. My table is SO much tougher this year I think even 700 would be okay. On the other hand, I think last year it took me several sessions to figure out a successful break strategy; this year should be easier in that respect.

Those interested in excelling at this challenge may find it fruitful to dig through the score-posting thread from last year for advice from the GoldenChild regarding the game. Both he and a top pro of my acquaintance feel that the strategy of the game is paramount - and can certainly make up for a lot of other deficiencies. Maybe we need another thread regarding the proper strategy.

Any help would be appreciated!! Maybe some of the guys that took the challenge last year would share their thoughts on how to go about it.

Not sure where you got the Southern Oregon part from. I am in SoCal
and came from Alabama

I'm shooting for between 650 and 700 (keep in mind I'm playing on buckets though...lol).

Do you have a link to that thread?

I scored 1041 last year which equals 520.5 in this abbreviated format

My whole form felt sloppy last year. I have been playing a bit recently and I feel pretty good from a mechanical perspective. Life is good at the moment so there aren’t any extraneous little gremlins buzzing around in my head. I think I’m coming in to the tourney in better shape than last year. I also think I might play with a bit more intensity and plan better patterns this time around. SOOO my prediction is

600

If 8 Ball.do Not Make A Ball.
If 9 Ball, Run'em.

Hey buddy,

It's actually kind of an off-shoot of rotation.
Break, take ball in hand or let it lie.
Run the first 10 in any order and the last 5 in rotation.

There's more to it but that's the basic gist.

Is there a link describing the game in detail. I am certainly interested in this and want to know how to score the game.

I aim low. That way i wont get screwed over if i dont reach my actual goal. :p

Im going for 300 for this 50 rack version. If i get lower, i just might have to kill myself ;) .

But honestly, i would be happy with 500. Its not great, but i dont consider myself that great of a pool player anyway. Maybe better than my friends, but then thats not much.

Don't know how i'll do, as i don't play much anymore, but i'm hoping to get around 750-800.

I continued playing this game for a few months, after last years invitational. Even with the one hundred rack version, I had some back to back variations by as much as a hundred points. The best 100 rack set for me was 921, but I was on track for a 1200 at the halfway point a couple of times. I just plain choked too much near the end. I haven't been playing much lately and would be real happy if I could post up a 500 on this shorter version. I expect it will be closer to 400.

The biggest challenges for are:

Breaking well.

Staying focused.

Taking the one point deduction after the break.

I played my best sets while alternating racks with a friend, who is a much stronger player than me.

This Game is Harder than 9-ball Skills Test for Me

I've spent the last week just practicing breaking...because that is the key to this game.

I thought that I would score somewhere in the semi-pro range (because that's where I score in the 9-ball test)...But...after doing my first 10 games...this skills test seems harder. I may end-up in the Developing Pro range...but we'll see.

I noticed in my first 10 games that I think I'm being over conservative. Not going after break-outs until I've cleared quite a few off the table and then in the end, I miss my last chance at a break-out, or get hooked...

It's a fun game though...

Do you have a link to the rules of the 9ball test?
