Hello,

I'm just wondering what you guys think of this combo.
Bocote Front/sleeve (most likely will have some VEE-Points of some configuration.) With a nice Straight-Grained Kingwood handle. I love the looks of both woods, and i know bocote hits great, and am told that kingwood is the same.

I also might exchange the Bocote front/sleeve with a Macassar ebony (Beautiful Wood) Piece i have been sitting on for awhile. But, i would probably core the Mac. Ebony. And maybe throw some points in there as well. I'll edit and attach some pictures of the bocote (not that exact piece, but a similar one, didn't feel like reaching for that one, so the one in the pic was closer), kingwood and a Mac. Ebony (if i can find a pic.)

I don't want to hear about weight ( :p ) as i like heavy cues. Balance? Either front weighted, or the ole' "feel the weight in your grip hand". Both work equally well for me :D .

Thanks,

Jon

Screw editing down to 100 kb.

Sorry Mike :) :p :D .

And i'll have to take another pic of some Mac. Ebony later.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon; a couple of things you might take into consideration. You have picked several VERY heavy woods. They may have to be cored to achieve a good balance without getting a 25 oz. cue. I had an art teacher who insisted that every composition must have something LIGHT,something DARK & something MEDIUM. This is the formula that I try to use in the making of my Qs. You have picked 2 very dark woods. Maybe you could mix in a lighter colored & weighted wood for the handle & then use the other wood for inlays, in the lighter wood. Just something to think about

Well, on the weight factor, i already had a solution :D . No biggie.
And as for the color composition? The kingwood is a lot lighter than in the pics, a very nice dowel. And yes, that bocote is very dark, but straight and tight grained. The Mac Ebony is beautiful, to say the least, but i don't care for the hit, so if i used it, it would be cored (doesn't have to be maple.)
I might go with the ebony/kingwood (front/sleeve and handle respectively.) Lets see... points... how about 4 long curly maple points, recut with kingwood, then recut with ebony up front, with 4 kingwood points, recut with ebony, then recut with curly maple behind those? And either a nice window design for the sleeve, or mirrored points? Should be a looker... We will just have to wait and see...

Hey... i'll have to write that down :D .

Thanks,

Jon

Cork? :D Try not to waste some exotic wood as core wood. :D

It'd look like Kraemer's favorite blazer ( of Seinfeld). :p

Make sure it's not a Szambotti "inspired" design.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I hope it's not anybody else's design, or else i'll have to hid in the sewers for the rest of my life... Or just sell the cue on ebay two weeks later.

Thanks,

Jon
