What drives you crazy while at the table?

This is something I don't believe anyone else has listed yet, but I really don't like it when some one chalks their cue or ususally a house cue and then bangs it on the table as if to knock off excess chalk. Oh the insanity of it all.:D

A few things that bug me.....

People on other tables whistling, absolutly drives me nuts!
Drunks who feel the need to cheer/shout after every shot.
People who keep coming up asking what your playing and how do you play it.
Tables that have more than 4 people around them. The hall i play in is right in the city center so this happens quite a lot at night.

This last one doesn't drive me crazy so much, but its deffinatly distractin, pretty ladies.

Nothing really drives me crazy anymore....I just remind myself that I am lucky that I don't have to go through life as the idiot that I am currently playing...:D

However it can get a little frustrating when you approach the table and can't find any chalk...only to find that your opponent has been removing them from the table to keep on the counter next to his drink...

Couldn't have said it any better!!!!!!:D

I play a guy who walks around the table lining up shots after the break. He takes great delight in bending over and cutting a big fart when he is standing by my chair. He will also cut a fart with no noise and then stand there sniffing the air finally asking, "You guys smell something burning?

LOL :D , thats what you get by eating burgers!

Being the only serious snooker player in my area, and the only one of the few players who can make sizable breaks, I often get people watching practice, which is ok. But what REALLY bugs me is when they feel the need to watch while leaning against my table, always able to move in my line of sight the moment i deliver my final stroke.

I have to say ditto on everyone elses pet peeves. I am a really pissey guy when I am practicing (it seems everything bothers me), that is until someone comes and talks to me. Then Ill show them stuff until the pool hall closes and longer if the the person has the interest.

The other thing that annoys the crap out of me is that a bunch of kids (teenagers) play on a table and somehow they make the cue ball fly off the table once or twice a rack, and not even on the break. Unless the rails were dead, i couldnt do that if I tried.

People who play more than one table at a time....
When it happens, I just use that lulled time to focus on harder shots & CB positioning that leave em hangin out to dry.... chalk my cue, then hand em the chalk smiling ;)
I really prefer a good solid chalanging game.... win or loose, always a lesson learned:D

I chalk after every shot...that's stupid to say that it bugs you....

Its stupid that you think my opionion is stupid!

If a person shoot then steps away from the table and chalks so i dont have to wait then thats fine. But standing there chalking after your shot, while im waiting for my turn at the table or to use the chalk for my turn bugs me.

Other people have agreed with me on this thread, so im not the only one.

Maybe you should stop chalking after the shot, or at least do it in your chair....;)

I really hate it when people get in my way when I'm about to shoot especially when they do it repeatedly; people that are inconsiderate in general piss me off!!!

The cell phone thing bugs me too. I was practicing by myself and this guy comes up to me and wants to play. He starts off by saying he doesn't want to play for anything because he has no chance of winning. Then he says we have to play 8 ball because he knows he has no chance playing 9b. The guy comes over and asks me to play and then makes all the rules up! Then we play the first game of 8b and I break and run out and the guy gets pissed - we're not playing for anything! During the second game, he gets a cell phone call and walks out of the place while he's talking on the phone and doesn't return for 15 minutes!! I threw the rest of the balls back up on the table and started practicing again. When he came back, he asked me what happened with our game. I told him "our" game is over and don't ever ask me to play again unless you got some cash and no cell phone!!

I hate it when someone asks me to play and I say "thanks but no thanks" and they don't take the hint. I had two guys asking me to play and said no thanks and they wouldn't leave it alone. They started bagging on me a little over a period of about 15 minutes. There was no one else in the ph except the owner who was listening to the whole thing but did nothing. Well, finally I calmly walked over to them with my cue in my hands. I didn't raise my voice and they were sitting down about 20 feet from me. I walked right up to them standing over them and asked them quietly if they had some kind of problem with me. After they cleaned their shorts they said "of course not" with quite a bit of quiver and stutter in their voices. I told them that I'm here on my lunch break and don't have a lot of time and certainly not enough time to play for any money but if they're interested, I will be back this afternoon at about 4:00. They just kind of quietly said, "Oh ok". I didn't see them anymore after that. The owner wanted to know what I said to them and I just told him that we were just having a private conversation.

Hope this helps relieve some stress...
Usually this move is just a mind game being played. Subconciously when this is done, you are being drawn to automaticly think this person is counting on you to miss & they are prepairing for it. This little move is just a ploy to try & throw you off balance.
Just ignore it, see it as their fear instead ;)

Mack, in your original post, you didn't say anything about standing there or being in the way. So it sounded like you hate when people chalk thier cue after shooting, period. Obviously you cleared it up what you meant in a later post.

But by itslef, it did sound funny. :D

Didn't read everyone's post but if this has been a pet peeve it is myne also the people who think the shot is tough and think they know you are going to miss the shot they grab the chalk and chalk up cause they think they are going to shoot next. I have people do this to me that don't know me or my game but people who i play with they don't do this although sometimes i miss that baby by a mile hehee.

and a few others are as follows:

- drunks

Jeez...what the hell kind of place are you playing in?? :D

Biggest pet peeve in the world to me.

Now keep in mind, I am in a wheelchair and I like lots of driving room around the table...I almost think I need 2 or 3 feet more than most people. Not because I am a horrible driver, but because I just feel more comfortable that way.

Anyway, we are shooting...it's 11am in the morning and the pool room just opened. Like 3 tables are going...we are all spaced out just fine. Place has like 12 tables.

These three kids come over and insist on playing at the table RIGHT next to us. There is literally a whole row of unused tables...BUT NO! They insist on using the table right next to us. Then my buddy and I decide to move to the VIP room...and before we can finish the first rack of 9 ball even, they decide to leave. OYE!

LMAO! Revenge is sweet, but the finer things in life, like spitting in their chalk is priceless. :) Good one!

Hell yeah! Take back the pool room! Stop the annoyances!

*OK so I'm a bit of a pacifist, but I can still encourage and instigate...:D

I also hate some of things already mentioned, like taking the chalk off the table or putting it chalk side down on the rail...but what really gets me, which I am surprised no has mentioned, is SLOW PLAY!

I am not talking about taking your time or mulling over the occasional extra tricky situation. No, I am talking about the indecisive player who can not figure it out. Then once they do, will take for ever to actually shoot.
I played a guy like this the other day and just could not wait for the match to end. I hate to even let this kind of person to the table.

For me you only have a few choices when you get to the table, make a ball, play a safe or kick...make your mind and shoot.

Many have stated thing that I too hate, and some hate things I do (I'm sure like powdering my hands because they swet and it grips the shaft).

But what truly drives me bonckers, is when I'm competing with someone who can't beat me with his stick, so he make a real effort to find a way to beat me with out it.

For example, I was at league this past Wednesday, I was just bumped to a SL6, and Artie the guy I'm playing is an old timer SL6 (one of those lifers). He first wants to get someone to call a shot, then says no that's ok I'll watch it (Him not me). And I say no, let's get someone to watch the shot so there is no doubt. I make the shot and then pocket the 8 to go to the hill. I break come to the table with an off angle bank, and I hear right behind me as I'm readying myself to pull the trigger, "this guy is a jerk, haven me get a called, he sucks". I stop explain that it's rude to talk will I'm shooting, and get an attitude, I get pissed , but calm down miss the shot and he wins that game to get to 2-4. After that I was done. I lost 5-4.

I guess I don't like what he did, but what I really hate is that I can't let it go, and just continue to beat him with my skill of my stick. I need to keep growing.

Pete

One more chalking annoyance

One habit even more annoying than grabbing the chalk off the table once you have missed and walking away chalking your cue as your opponent gets ready to shoot - The player who waits until they THINK you are about to miss and then starts chalking.

When this happens there is, of course, nothing more satisfying than nailing the tough shot they thought you werer about to miss and having that chalk cube come to halt in their hands.
