What else do you do with your lathe?

I've been spinnin stuff on my midsize cue smith for (2 thumbs up recommended machine) about 1 year now and I've found myself with quite a mix of tools and supplies.
I don't make cues and have little interest in doing so (obtaining, cutting, aging, tapering, aging, finishing wood? I'll leave this to the pros), but have assembled some carbon fiber shafts with varying levels of success for friends now and made a lot of joint protectors. A lot of joint protectors. It's all pretty fun stuff and I have learned quite a lot about a lot of different things.

What do you do with your lathes beyond tips/ferrules/wraps?

Pens are a good hobby project thats really easy and makes a good gift. Woodcraft and Rockler have aisles of various turning kits. Penn State is an online supplier:

Many of your tools will also work with aluminum.

Pens. Bottle Stoppers. Canes. Shavers. Rings....use your imagination. Consider adding a spindle lathe to your shop and there are no limits. Having a Taig & Spindle gets interesting. As mentioned take a look at Penn State Industries. (PSI). Look up How to Turn a Pen (uTube).
There is a very good pen forum IAP (International Association of Penturners). Pens are component kits. You will turn/finish a blank and assemble the pen. Gift/sell/donate to fundraisers...
Before getting involved get a part time job.
