What ever happened to?

Scott, SOMEWHAT???? I think it would be safe to say that on his good days, he makes Earl look like the Flying Nun!

Last I saw Jack he was still b!#$hing about a match he lost 6 or 7 years ago. I don't know where he is now, but he occassionally breezes through Fort Smith, AR.

Later,
Bob
What a piece of work he is. Great player but definitely an a$$hole. If Danny H. would like to chime in, he and Jack had a funny confrontation at a McDermott tourney in Paducah, Ky many years ago. I'd like to hear his version of what transpired. FWIW. Those McDermott events were some great regional tourneys. I really miss miss John and Randy's old tour.

I saw Norm in Columbus 2 years ago, still plays pretty good on the small tables.

Don Steele and is still around like someone said playing on the Planet pool tour. I used to enjoy sweating matches with him and his wife at the Akron Opens at Starchers in the mid 80s and 90s.

Jack Hynes, who cares? Last time I saw him he had two black eyes no shoes and was trying to hustle up a 5 dollar game. So if he's still around it must be by devine intervention.

Andy

Jack dumped on me giving Charlie Brinson the 7ball in Akron, Jack and Charlie were racing to 13 for a dime Jack was up 12 to 4 or 5 when they wnet to get a cup of coffe togather Charlie won 13 to 12. I gave him a black eye for dumping on me. That was the first time Dottie banned him from Starchers

Ricky Van Uum....fell off the wagon after 11 years of clean/sober life. Sold all his possessions & has traveled from state to state getting high. Last time I saw him was Tunica MS about 2 years ago. He looked terrible. Haven't heard or seen of him since. I check the obituaries every day wondering when I will see his name. At one time and for a period of many years, he & I were close friends but he chose drugs over life/pool/friendship. A great 9 baller but even better at one pocket. Fearless & innovative & tons of heart & always the true gentleman when he gambled. He had Jack Cooney shaking his head time & time again as they played even when Jack would come to town. Ricky usually got the cash or at worst they broke even.

The last time I saw Jack Hines was when Ricky beat him & Jack had nice kind words of telling Ricky to "suck his d***" afterwards.

Huckster...just trying to put a face with a name. The only time I saw Gary Spaeth play was when he came to St Louis for a 1-pocket tournament. His stakehorse at the time was gentleman about the same age as him, kinda tall with a beard. Is that you? Gary won the tournament but had his hands full in the finals with a local 1-pocket specialist at the time. Gary finally turned each game into a bank game moving all the balls up table & then just picked off balls, one at a time.

Ricky seemed to be a great talent what a shame. I am dependant upon pain medication from a car accident and I can understand how someone can become addicted to drugs..

I only backed Gary a few times I was never his stakehorse, it may have been the cuemaker Sherm. I am in only in my 30's and have been gambling for a living since I was sixteen years old.

> On the subject of Jack Hines, can there be a more obnoxious, more despised human being on the planet that doesn't wear a diaper on his head? The very first time I saw him,he was playing one of the local Akron boys, and the match was hill-hill,he had ball in hand and dropped the cue ball and fouled the 5. Of course,it was called. Jack made such a big stink about how he was being cheated that Akron PD led him away. That may have been the LAST time dear old Dottie banned him. Man I miss the tournaments there, and all the newspaper and magazine clippings all over the place. I also saw him led out of The Rack in Memphis in cuffs, and was said to have been pepper-sprayed once he got outside. You really have to watch him,he is a master of disguise,or at least he used to be. I saw him come in one of the bars here in town wearing borrowed or stolen glasses, how he wound up in the most action-barren town in America I'll never know. A few days later, the people he was running around with had him arrested in Missouri for stealing everything they had in the motel room, including the tv. Tommy D.

Jack Hynes

I watched him play in a tournament in lexington, kentucky about 10 years ago. Thought something might be wrong with his shoulder, as he had a big hump on it. After a couple of matches I saw an iguana or some kind of huge lizard poke its head out of his sweater! A true head case for sure, but his "A" game was top notch.

Another good thread, Huckster. Adam Wheeler is a member of the "IPT 150". One player that could be added to the list is Jimmy Wales(sp?) from Georgia, I think. I know he was in the joint for awhile, got out and I saw him in a tournement a few years ago. I never saw him play his top speed, but I heard he was one tough player for the $. One guy told me he used to pull the old "Bugs" Rucker trick, going to a tournement and challenging the winner to match up cuz he knew he had a shot at a score. One of my buddies used to back Jack Hynes back in the day, and I always wondered if he was laying it on a little thick about what an irresponsble jerk the guy was, but I see from other posts that he is a top candidate for the "Pool Players' Hall of Shame".

Larry Price

Has anyone heard from Larry Price lately? He must be pushing 60 years old now. He is 100% pool player. You might recall he won the Derby City banks about three years ago. He is from the Georgia area.

Watchez,

I believe the gentleman you're referring to is Dave Meyerson (sp.) He backed Gary for several years, including two trips to Germany to play Bustamante.

Cole Dickson

Chris...Cole is now living a couple of hours from me, in Billings, MT.

Scott

Cole Dickson is indeed living in Billings, Montana and does work construction. His father has some rental property and Cole takes care of it. He took a young gentlemen on a little road trip on the way to that tournament in LA. I did not hear about Cole playing along the way. The young gentlemen is a VERY strong player and impressed a few people on the way to Los Angeles. Cole did not do well in LA. He spent some time in Las Vegas playing a little cards. He was on his way back to Billings. Cole has a table set up in a building behind his house in Billings. I was able to play one pocket with him for about 3 or 4 hours one evening. He played very very well. He also had some great stories to tell about the years gone by. I'll be up in Billings in a month or so and we will play some more one pocket.
