I have had the Gina Cue catalog over two years, and been anticipating the moment I had the money to order a Gina Cue. Know deliver will be 8-10 months but that is O.K.

Now here is the problem, I want to play with it, but also hope that it will appreciate someday as I understand Ernie G. the Cue Makers of the
Gina is close to retirement.

I am not sure what model to order as I keep looking at these four Gina Cue model the 17A, 17A, 18A, and last the 18B?

Considering I want to play with it occasionally, but still hope it appreciate.

I ask those in the know what would be my best gamble? The 17A, 17A, 18A, or last the 18B? Also Ivory Joint, Butt Cap, and Farrels a good or bad idea, for resale?

Can you

post pictures of the model numbers, so I can tell you my favorite ... LOL

Although I'm not a huge fan of Ivory monsters (have you seen that Gina in the Wanted/For Sale section!), I don't mind ivory ferrules/joint/butt cap at all. And they are definitely good for resale value (and the first two for playability).

Not sure what the models look like, but I'd say to ask someone who's collecting Ginas...there ought to be at least a few on this board...

Ivory

Ivory is becoming rare and in some cases illegal, thus increasing the value of a cue made with it. However if one travels outside of the U.S. a cue with ivory could be held by customs.

Hal

the 17's are 4 pronged cues are they not? they will probably appreciate better than other 4 pronged cues, but not as much as ernie's fancier cues.

try to see if you can get him to use some exotic woods that he never uses. i doubt he will, but try anyway.

They are 5 prong cues. I would Not get the ivory buttcap on these lower end Gina's. Everything else sounds good to me

I love my ivory monster. I have loved all of my ivory cues. I appreciate the look of ivory itself and how it adds to the appearance and value of cues. I have no doubt there are those who disagree and they are just as entitled to their opinions. I have never seen the purpose or benefit of engaging in debates over morality regarding using ivory in cues, much like various other politically sensitive issues. Suffice it to say, if you want to add ivory components to your cue, I believe you will be pleased with how it adds to the future resale value.

For playability, if you plan to use it, I have used ivory ferrules and joints for years and have always been very happy with how they felt. In seven years I have had only one ferrule, which I used regularly for four and a half years, develop a small hairline crack, which still did not affect how it hit. Mind you, I have also read numerous posts about players, with their eyes closed, who could not tell the difference between steel and ivory joints with respect to feel, all other things being equal. I have probably read just as many that stated an ivory ferrule and steel joint was the best combination for playability. Take that for what it is worth.

In my opinion, ivory up!

I'd definately get all of the ivory inlaid in your cue that your budget will allow. It will pay off for you if you ever decide to sell the cue and you'll get to enjoy it as long as you own it. I'm a big fan of ivory inlays in custom cues.

Thats a real tease. The pics are too small to get a good idea of what they truely look like. Thanks anyway.

Hi.

Maybe this helps? I also have Ernie's price lists for various options.

Thanks. 18B looks like it has some nice rings and ivory joint in a low end (?) Ginacue. Might be your best bet.

17B or 18B. The others may hold their value on name alone but these models will appreciate a little more as there is more intricate ringwork, inlays, and overall design.

I really like 11C and 17B -- Gus style high + low points and ivory really look quite appealing.

I have 17a

I have a 17a Gina, I love the cue and it is the best playing cue I own.

If I could change one thing, it would be having an ivory joint.

My cue came with ivory ferrelles, moori tips, and the butt cap appears to be ivory but I was told it was synthetic, (man it looks like ivory).

Just my input.

i don't think ernie uses any form of plastic or any such man-made synthetics in his cues.
