What happened at the Eureka $4000 Added Tourney?

Josh Palmer played so he might post some details.

One of my friends played in it. I tried to call him but his cell was out of range. That was 5pm last night so hopefully that means he was still in Eureka and playing.

I'll probably see him today and ask him about it. He just started an AZB account so he might post the details himself.

Carl Wilson, Billy Palmer, Todd Marsh and Lance Salazar were the final four with Carl and, I think, Lance for the HILL match.

Only 38 players showed up for this $4000 added event.

Oh wow, I am happy for Todd. He wanted Mike to travel with him.

I didn't hear... but Lance probably won it. Todd Marsh was playing great by the second day, and basically free-wheeling. Lance smoked Kim Davenport badly, and licked his chops when it was done. He also did the same to Billy Palmer. I am an idiot for not buying him in the calcutta. He's playing better than all the players there. I had to play your buddy Alex first round, and then lost my next to the local hero  I played a decent match against Bobby Hunter 9-3, and 9-4 Kenny Koo... someone else I forget, then lost to Simon Pickering, a match that I played soooo badly. Yikes! Bad weekend to have a birthday on and mix drinking with playing!

Sounds like the 38 players that did show up were loaded with talent. Simon plays a mean game, so don't feel too badly. Happy Birthday anyway!!!

Josh, who was the local hero? Dave Bonomini? Terry Qualls? I played out of that room for about 5 years when it was "Ichabod's Billiards", owned by Don Miller. We always had 1 or 2 good money tournaments each year, but it was hard to get players to go to Eureka, since it's at the end of the line...;) I'm surprised Chris MacDonald didn't come up from Windsor. Bobby Hunter must like it there. He comes all the way from Carson City, NV.

LOL.. It was Dave, Art. I think he has some secret mojo. He is deceiving, because he plays good enough, but the rolls... JESUS! Terry was there to watch, and Chris came up as well. I think Chris might have finished 5/6th. Too much hammering nails, or he might have finished higher. I wasn't playing good yet, but after losing to Dave, I was revved up. I won a few matches, then the wind came out of my sails (probably when it sank in that I lost to Bonomini.. lol.. j/k). I wonder if I met you at the last straight pool tourney that Don and Lynn had. It was the only one I played in, and Bobby Hunter won it for like the 6th consecutive time. (although I ran a 42 on him, looking for more and then froze myself under the stack without a shot  )

1st - Lance Salazar $3000

2nd - Todd Marsh $1500

3rd - Billy Palmer $1000

Chris Macdonald took 5/6th place. I guess Chris went hill-hill with Billy but couldn't close it out. Chris hardly ever plays anymore (building a house) but can still hold his own.

My friend Lance beat Kim D. 9-5, Billy Palmer 9-4, Nick Aguallo 9-4, Carl Wilson (9-3?), and then beat Todd Marsh at hill-hill to prevent a second set in the finals. He went for 300 in a blind calcutta which paid out around 1200- I think there were three, 300 dollar blind picks; meaning that the first three people paid 300 and chose who they wanted. Lance was picked third.

Kim had gotten some rolls in Vegas when he and Lance played in the UPA event so Lance was talking about how he wanted to draw Kim the first round. He ended up getting his wish and was up 6-1 before finishing Kim off at 9-5. A guy who knows Billy Palmer predicted Lance would smoke him and he was right. Anyone who knows how much respect Billy gets in the Bay area can get a sense of how good Lance was hitting them.

Lance has been taking his game seriously lately and is playing strong. Don't be surprised if he does well in a IPT qualifier or the Reno/Hard Times tourneys coming up.

Word is that Billy's game is off a little since he started working at the docks. It'll come back once he gets acclimated. I'm sure that's why the guy who knows him felt he was vulnerable. NOT saying that Lance isn't a strong player by any means...

Cheers,
RC
