What happened to Archer?

Seyberts is reporting that Archer only won 2 of his 7 matches. What's up with that? Not only this, but his high run was only 22/23?

Something does'nt seem to add up. Perhaps he was not feeling well, or maybe he has too much 9-ball on his mind.

Regards,

Doug

whatever....there's also a report that he was in a dispute and quit on a game. unusual if you ask me, but i think i had to do with refereeing or lack thereof. looks like he's having a really bad week, and is done. the two matches he played on the first day were both on the main camera table.

he either narrowly won or got spanked.

Camera table? Is this being broadcast and I don't know about it?

I don't know what happened to Archer, but Robles performance has to be just as if not more surprising than Archer's poor performance, Robles is a straight pool specialist and for him not to make the second round was a shock IMO.

It's being recorded for a later broadcast. I'm fairly sure it's being taped for ESPN.

I believe it was being taped for DVD. Judging from the equipment used, I'd be very surprised if it was accepted by ESPN.

Yep def only to DVD but still should be some good matches, atleast we'll finally have some straight pool available on DVD and not jsut VHS tapes!

I know I'm biased but I though group 1 was pretty tough if not the toughest. Obviously Harriman and Max are great players, Kusano won the last Korea Open and Wehner is a great young player that we all heard about before the event, and still only 15! Even becker ran 60+ 3 times I believe, and poor old IPTer Schwartz lost two very tight matches, one when he was leading 99-60ish and had to watch Kusana run out!

As for the incident, Archer had already lost sseveral matches by then but could still have made it if he hadn't quit that match. I see both sides of what happened, the shot clock certainly wasn't applied equally in many matches BUT Kusano hardly speaks a word of English and didn't know he was on a clock.

Archer is kind of a streaky player for the last few years. When he's on, he plays some of the best pool in the world. When he's off, he's really off. Kind of like Earl Strickland. Johnny went into a long slump and I don't think he's fully recovered from it yet. Before the slump he was easily in the top 5 pool players in the world. Maybe his slump happened because he took up golf, who knows. I really want to see Johnny get back in stroke like he was in the 90's. What's really impressive, is that even when he is not playing his best, he still places high in tournaments and even wins some.

Man, I gotta disagree. Johnny did go into a slump but it ended three years ago. Since then he has consistently been at the top of the rankings and his winning record has allowed him to dominate the Player of the Year honors, only losing out this past year because Wu won two World titles in one year. Otherwise it could easily have been Johnny again.

I was not in NY and so do not know what caused his performance there to lag. But since he makes his living playing 9-Ball and 8-Ball it might be understandable if 14:1 is not high on his practice list. Watch how Archer does on the IPT. He has been practicing and I don't know of many players in the world who can hold a candle to a well-practiced and confident Johnny Archer.

I wast told JA ran 138 on his IPT spec, tight and slow cloth table shortly before the event so he was obviously playing well, he didn't perform it happens, the groups where tough
