What happened to Mali cues?

When I first started playing pool in the mid late ninety's Mali cues were a decent cue; or so I was told. It was in fact my first cue. After a 5 year break, and just starting a couple months ago, I just don't see them except for one or 2 online shops. Can anyone tell me what happened to the company?

Mali Cues are currently made in China. The new series is called the Vintage series. There are I believe eight cues in this series, they are very traditional in design and feature cut / short - V splice points no CNC work. They are along the same line as Lucasi pool cues. The retail pricing for these cues is $140 to $250. Hope this helps, have a nice night!!

mali

i used to go to the shop where they were made for years. its near pittsfield MA. they closed the shop about 6 or 7 years ago. sad story. they layed off all the people in this small little town. i knew some of them. all the equipment was sold to PFD.

i still have one of those OLD cues. still hits em good.

i have a friend who has an old box full of those cues.......all new and unopened. he sold them out of his poolroom. ive been trying to buy them from him.

a old mali was my first "decent cue" that i bought for myself way back in about 1987 (man that makes me feel old). I quit pool for 10 years while i was married and started back playing about 5 years ago when i got divorced. You dont see many mali's anymore, the old ones were decent, the new ones dont seem that great. I stepped over into the dark side of customs and high end productions and never looked back:cool:

Cuesport and Mali

I play with a Mali at the moment. A few years ago I wanted a new shaft made. I had to contact (I think it was Mali) the original maker through Cuesport who had bought them out. I just did a search but could not find a site for cuesport or Mali.

I love my Mali, even though the name has worn off. I think mine is about 15 years old.

i'm an ipt player and play with a Mali M-14 1999 model with custom phenlonic joints and hand selected birds eye maple with extra birds eye in the wood, it's also custom weighted at 16.5oz. my break cue is a Mali M-1 in 18oz. with stainless steel joints and a wrap that goes all the way down into the butt sleave. i use 13mm triangle tips on both cues. Mali made cues from 1961 to 2001 in the u.s.a. in fact a picture of the very first Mali ever made is in the 3rd. edition of the blue book of pool cues, it's the one with an american eagle that's slightly raised, it recently sold for $1,800. today the cues are made in china, and the quality is as good if not better, in fact, another ipt player sal butera plays with a really nice new MALI cue called the V-9. turquiouse and ebony, with white boarders, nice cue indeed! you could still buy Mali cues if you go to www.malicloth.com and get their ph# for a cue distributor, and if you don't want to buy MALI, then i suggest the next best thing, an action ELITE natural series cue, quite nice. granted there is no end to cues these days, there is something like 2,500 cue makers and most of them are good. if you got the bucks and want to stand out look up the mezz limited 2001 edition, an incredible cue that stands out in a sheek and fancy unique way. it may set you back $2000.

Just sharing. Mali cues were made up in Southfield,Mass just north of Canaan,Ct I own 5 of them. They play very well.I know many others who own them as well since we are all from the area.I visited the shop many times.Know the gentleman who ran it.
I would like to look into the box that someone above stated contained many Malis that were for sale.I font need one but would love to look. I have a one of a kind prototype that was suppose to start selling in Germany.Played with it for years then put it away. Would love to hear more about Malis and who may have any for sale. Also would love to know where to look at and maybe buy a Chinese made Mali. Thanks
