What happened to the Men's tour??

Men's Tour???

Hi Folks,

Me of so little faith! This morning in my mailbox, was my 2004 - 2005 membership renewal from the UPA. The envelope also contained information on the World Summit of Pool to be held Sept 29th through Oct 3rd. So much for no contact. If any of our WPBA members are looking at this forum, please let us know how frequently you receive information from the WPBA. To me, it seems like such a small thing. I watch the schedule at the UPA website. I talk to other members on a regular basis. I follow the independent event schedule at AZ Billiards. I'm a member of several other "tours". Somehow I can find events to play in. I'm not sure how the real "pro's" get their information. I think some posters have so little respect for their pool playing peers, they think them fools.

Anyway, the subject of the UPA has been beaten to death once too many times on this forum. I've wasted too much time. You non-members can speculate as to what the UPA is up to. You can also miss out on the good things the UPA tries to do for the game.

TheOne, take a moment and contact the UPA through the website. If you aren't happy with the results, PM me and I'll get you whatever information you need. I also play regularly on the Joss Northeast Tour. Please contact Mike Zuglan, tour director at mzjosstour@aol.com. Were you at Reno with Johl Younger? I may have met you. Regardless, welcome to the states. Take care on your travels here.

I'm a believer!

here are a few things that I have noted on this forum:

1. some people just bitch and moan and hate the upa for some reason or another. other posters are right, the upa could change mens' pool forever, for the better, and these posters would still find something to complain about.

2. the upa has come out with some big press releases; espn, grand central station, cell phone game, official product, etc. It's obvious that these guys are doing something right. perhaps the seeds they sowed are finally showing results.

3. some people just don't like mr. williams, he beat them at the table, they tried to talk to him and he wasn't nice, they just overall hate the guy becuase he's doing what they wish they could, he's asian, whatever. i find that the upa is not charlie williams. to say it is, is to say that america is pres. bush.

4. people who are supposed members complian about the upa yet don't resign, or will probably rejoin. also, apparently top players like the upa. let's see if manlyshot rejoins... ?

5. people on forums don't submit to purely logical arguments or they just make stuff up altogether and never call sources.

me? I'm going to wear a baseball cap, practice, and try to join the upa.

If you would like some clarification, why don't you talk to Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich or Evan Broxmeyer, two UPA touring pros, about their experiences with the UPA as it pertains to their membership and communication.

Manlyshot, is this you Evan Broxmeyer?? You may consider yor arrogant self a "touring pro" because you pay the membership and play in the events, but your level of play is not even close. Weren't you playing B to B+ last year, then asked the tour director to bump you to A for whatever reason?? No offence but A is a far cry from touring pro. LOL!

why would you think manlyshot is Evan B?

Also, manlyshot I took a few second and read your long post. you seem awefully bitter about not getting newsletters.... sounds kind of silly to me when all person has to do is look at the upa site (god knows you are on the net alot). Also, if you were so interested in what was happening with tournaments, events, upa general, etc. you just pick up a damn phone a call the upa!

i'm sure the upa is not running all the way to the bank with your measely $100. if you look at their roster you're looking at a 100 names or so. this makes 10k to run an association. last i heard it cost more than a thousand dollars just put an add in one of the billiard magazines.

no offense, but if you spent 1/10 of your time looking at their site for event info, and called them you would be in the 'know.'

mens tour

i seem to remember when the mens tour was great organization, that is until don mackey screwed it up......i remember them having many more than 6 events and their point system meant something....you had to earn your place on the tour....first you had to qualify(show that you were not a waste of their time)..you then paid to join and then had to participate in a number of events to stay a active member......and i would also believe that their were alot more than 100 members also......as far as allen hopkins goes,he only started his production after the disbanding of the "REAL" mens tour......i tend to believe the upa is a mickey mouse organization in that they only have 6 or so events and this invitation only thing really shocks me.......what about the unknowns,if you arent on some list you never have a shot at showing your skill.......maybe i have read this whole post wrong and am way off base....but no matter who the sponsors are the women have proven that a pool tour can be sucessful as long as you dont have 1 or 2 people trying to hoard all the money.....dont know why the men cant band together and follow suit and get their acts togther and give us something to look forward to......it is a crying shame as i believe if we were to ever get a sponsor like nike or rolex or a big name like that, that pool would be in the mainstream like baseball, and the like......realize billiards has been around alot longer than any of the sports we follow and participate in today......."if" only the men would try to be so damn greedy i think we could see the mens tour back in the spot light where it belongs.......juston coleman

Thanks for that Cardiac I will contact the UPA via the website and let you know how I get on. I have read a bit on the Joss tour and this would be the one I would probably most like to play on if I move to the US.

Yes I was in Reno with Johl Younger, I met a few people there so we may have met. Can you jog my memory?

Thanks for the help

dont know why the men cant band together and follow suit and get their acts togther and give us something to look forward to.

in my opinion to many with the
Me,My,I syndrome
