What have you personally found to be the best

Watching professional matches helped my game play better than anything.

For instuctional books, I think the Byrne series helped me the most.

For practice, the PAT series books and videos are great. You really don't need to pay for instrucional drills. Look around on the net and you will find many. After awhile, you will create your own.

In the next few months I hope to visit Randy G. for some personal instructions. I really think this will take my game to the next level.

best

i have to say the best things i've found is accu stats tapes of matches with the great players.after you have learned the basics/some advanced moves you need to watch these to advance.reason being unless you have a genuis mind for pool its hard to have a mind for the way some of these guys move.if you watch enough tapes on the games you like to play AND OTHERS it will help your game out alot considering you are capable of mimicing the moves.

Professional instruction has been mentioned and from what I understand Scott Lee uses video of his students as part of the instruction. I have yet to use video to critique my pool game, but in other sports that I have been a student, I found watching video of oneself to be a invaluable learning aid. IMO critiquing video, including slow motion of yourself, by yourself or better yet with the expertise of an instructor would be the best way to diagnose and correct any flaws in your stroke mechanics. Then repeat the process as many times as necessary until you get it right.

Steve...You're absolutely correct! I worked with a student yesterday, in Providence RI, who is a 60 yr old fireman in Boston. He has played most of his life, and had NO idea what flaws were present in his ball address, and his set up and delivery of the cuestick. After just a few hours we were able to identify what he needed to work on, and give him the necessary tools to diagnose himself when things go wrong, as well as build that new process into a permanent feature of his game. Video analysis and review is ESSENTIAL in the individual learning process.

a pool hall where nobody knows me and I don't know anybody. Then playing... Actually that is yesteryear, these days its just booze and my local crew....sometimes somone steps up and down again but thats that. Still going where I've never gone before and drawing my cue with strangers has been my best education.
