I can't seem to figure out what styling makes a case a "hustler style" case? Any insights?
Thanks.
The best Hustler case is a rubber band.
Let's see, you need a break cue, a jump cue, a playing cue, a collectable cue to show your buddies, a couple of carbon shafts that you are trying out; a butt weight set for on the fly changes, a shaper, a scuffer, a burnisher, Qwax, a Qclaw, a couple different kinds of chalk, talc, alcohol wipes; towel, glove, a cue ball, a set of balls in the latest color; special, comfortable pool shoes, a wristband, a headband, an extra shirt. Is a golf bag big enough???! I'm thinking about one of those big equipment bags on rollers, big enough to hold a 4x8 case along with everything else, or maybe a coffin on rollers to protect everything inside. However these days since pool cases look like golf bags...
It's any 1x1 case with no pockets. My opinion

It is the type of case used in the movie The Hustler. Typically such a case is referred to as a satchel style case where the lid fits over a tube and is held on with a strap and buckle.I can't seem to figure out what styling makes a case a "hustler style" case? Any insights?

And? We can all see that you said what you said. I posted something that is actually where the reference comes from. Spliced is the ONLY person prior to me who got it right.Just like I said in the post earlier..
Cheers!!!
Not going to argue with you. That style has been around since the 1700s or earlier. Yes there is a simple elegance to the style. But the reference to a "hustler" case is ONLY from the movie. There have not been many case makers who have remade this style, Murnak, Melton, JB Cases and now you. My reference was not attributing any words to you.Where did you read that I said there’s hustler style cases similar to Sneaky’s?
I said “ simple and elegant like Sneaky’s”.
Here’s pic of the lid that we speak about.

Might be referring to the style of the AE Schmidt "Classic" case paul newman carried in The Hustler.
Ah, I get it: "hustler" actually refers to the movie. I've examined your History cases before and read about them. Beautiful. It is the type of case used in the movie The Hustler. This style has advantages and disadvantages. It is relatively easy to build but hard to do well imo. There are other considerations to making it much more durable than was done in the time that AE Schmidt and Brunswick were selling this style of case. This style was a mass-production item and not built to last a lifetime.
Melton, Murnak, us, and I presume you are building to last a lifetime. We have the advantage of modern methods and parts. I am WELL aware of the lid style, there are actually TWO main ones with this style, one is a flush cap and the other is a slipover cap. We prefer to do the flush cap even though it is much more work to do. The end result, when done well, provides a sleeker look in my opinion.
