Hi all,

I know, this place is where i can get the answers to my question.

I heard this phrase sometimes, Clock the Shot/Clock system, and i dont really understand what they really mean. So how does this work, is it practical, do players really use it?
Can someone please explain it?

Many Thanks...

If you think of a clock face on the cue ball, then you can describe what english to apply as "one o'clock english" or "four o'clock english", etc.

As one goes to higher clock numbers, the spin-to-speed ratio increases.

Higher ratios tend to make the ball run longer.

So far, so good.

Now some people have tried to add numbers to these facts to the point of claiming that a change from, say one o'clock to three o'clock will make the cue ball go exactly two diamonds longer (on a standard around the table shot).

Claims such as this have earned that system the nickname "the crock system".

There are an endless number of "clock shots", the idea of all is by adding one 'hour' to the shot you change it

Simple one is if you're shooting from the long rail to the short, end of the table to your right, close to the corner, the cue ball will come back to your left about 5 points, assuming a diamond is 10 points, half diamond. So if you shot a little above center middle ball there, that's noon. So now hit the cueball same place, but one 'hour' on the clock to the left, and the cueball will come back 10 points, or one diamond, each 'hour' will give you 5 points on the 3rd rail. Try it, it works. If you're at, say, 10 on the long rail, and you want to hit 20, 2 diamonds on the third rail to your left, you add two tips of english, each is 5. Start from 10 plus 2 tips of english is 10=20.

My bad there, if you shoot from 10 deadball, it will come back at 15, each tip adds 5, so if you want 20, add one tip of english. Two tips will get you 25. Depends on your stroke a little, you have to practice it.

Half Ball Hit 2 Diamonds English

CueTable Help

Half Ball Hit 1 Diamond English Brings you to 1

Half Ball Hit 3 Diamonds of English Brings you to 3

This works all over the table. You gotta figure out exactly where on the CB is 1, 2, and 3 Diamonds

Adjustments

Short angle shots use across the equator
All others take your pick.

OOPS guess I'm not allowed to post a carom table. You get the picture though
