Did you get the whole file from me? How'd it turn out? My upload speeds have been crap lately, it must have taken you awhile.

I think Efren would beat anyone in a "Color of Money"-type competition anytime, although it looks like Alex P. would give him a harder time that Earl ever did.

Hey, I love Alex and I'm happy for his WPC win, and I guess I can even go along with a statement equating Alex's game to Earl's, but to say that Earl (in his prime!) is a worse player is just ridiculous.

Earl Strickland is one of the best 9-ball players EVER. He's won THREE world championships, the last one in 2002, at 43 years old. As far as I'm concerned, Alex P. haven't yet earned the right to be compared to Strickland favorably.

Just my opinion, not taking anything away from the "Lion" and his recent accomplishments.

Efren Reyes is a great but humble player. During the Asian 9 Ball tour, he said that he was lucky to win when interviewed about his wins. One of the most memorable shot I have seen by him was a 4 rail kick shot which he potted during a match against Jeong of Korea. He is indeed "The Magician" in pool. I would call him the "God of Pool" actually. :D

AMEN, AMEN, AMEN.

As far as Alex compared to Earl today, The match to 17 is a toss up. To 120, my $$$ on Earl. Earl is, when in stroke, probably the best 9 ball player alive. Efren, I don't know of anyone who compares on overall playing ability. Sam

Efen to me is the most layed back player i have ever seen. There are players that wish thay can be that way .Earl is a good shotmaker but his mouth get him in a lot of heat. If ES play pool and stop getting nasty with other players he can fall in the Efren class. That is just my 2 cents .

As far as Alex and Earl on overall playing ability, I'll take Alex. He plays a lot of different games at champion level. Not saying Earl can't, his high gear is definately 9-ball or 10-ball. Sam

Hi Folks,

Most everyone here has a great Efren story. Mine occurred in Providence, RI a couple of years ago. Mika and Efren were matched up in a Joss Tour Event. Mika broke, made a ball, the nine hung but he had no makeable shot on the one ball. He played a great safe shot to the opposite end of the table behind two balls. The two older gentlemen sitting next to me had never seen Efren play. They were discussing safety kick shots he might play. Being my obnoxious self, I leaned over and told them they were both wrong. Efren would kick four rails behind the one. The one would then travel diagonally to the far end of the table and pocket the nine. They laughed. Efren executed. I smurked! "The Magician". So true, so true! Who else would you want to shoot a shot if your (their) life depended on it?

i just love it when we all can come together like this and talk.

If you read the post I was responding to, crawler486 asked, "Earl (not considering his attitude) is the better pool player than Efren?" referring to my initial post and that of several others, defending Earl from this statement: "I think Efren would beat anyone in a "Color of Money"-type competition anytime, although it looks like Alex P. would give him a harder time that Earl ever did."

I was trying to clarify to that one poster that no one is saying Earl > Efren, but rather Earl > Alex P.

I know it sounded flippant and rude but I thought it was clear enough.

Hey crawler486 did you also know that Reyes was already inducted to the Hall of Fame in billiards along with Buddy Hall. So he is one of the BEST!!!!
Go Efren Go!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I didn't read the 3 pages of responses, but here's my reasoning. Please forgive me if it's ditto to what has already been written.

Efren Reyes is the greatest cueist to ever play the game, living or dead, bar none. Anybody who disagrees with this is foolish and would go broke staking whoever they believe is better in any game they choose.

For someone so talented, Efren is remarkably humble, and a complete gentleman in all situations. If Ray Martin was a 'Cool Cat', Efren is a Freezer. You won't see him lose his cool or be disrespectful.

For a true pool fan or player to be in the presence of Efren Reyes, is to be in the presence of greatness. You would be a fool to not approach him and get his autograph, or at the very least, shake his hand.

I will take this one step further at the risk of sounding like I've lost my mind. Efren Reyes plays the game on a level that most of the other top players couldn't even phathom. Although many players have tried to improve their games to play more like The Magician, he thinks and plays on a level light years ahead of the others. He is The Magician and his brand of magic is Philipine.

You must be a Filipino to have that kind of adulation for Efren.
