What is it about Efren Reyes?

I am not Filipino, but I do have the utmost respect for Efren Reyes as a pool player, a champion and a man.

And yes, I am always confused as to when to use 'Ph' or 'F' when spelling.

Amidst the confusion...

...there is only more confusion...

Spain colonized this archipelago and named it "Las Islas Filipinas" in honor of King Philip II. "Philippines" is just the English spelling of the country. The "Ph" is used when spelling the country, "Philippines." The "F" is used when denoting a person from the Philippines, as in a Filipino/Filipina. And the "P" is used for the culture/language, "Pilipino."

Thanks for the education. That will make it easier to remember, as I am sure we will be discussing this further in the pool world.

What is it about this Filipino guy? I was browsing the WPC website and in the players list profiles, I noticed so many of them has Efren as their favorite player.

I had earlier ran a count of the 128 pool players entered in this years World Pool Championship. Each player lists who his favourite player is and the cue he plays with.I only did one count and here's the results:

FAVOURITE PLAYER

Reyes 75
Strickland 13
Bustamante 12
Archer 6
Varner 5
Ortman 5

It's no surprise, Reyes kick's aS$ here.WOW!!, 75 out of 128 players pick Efren as their favourite.Earl finishing 2nd might surprise some and not because of his obvious talent.
Steve Davis even lists Earl as on of his favourites.
I think Efren's superior skills had a lot to do with him being selected first by so many players and also his great personality.Earls personality probably cost him a vote or two.

CUE PREFERENCE

Predator 39 (5)
Schon 10
Bear 9
Joss 4
Gina 3
John Parris 3

Out of the 39 Predators used, 5 of them are shaft only with a different butt. John Parris is a snooker cue preferred by some of the English players including Steve Davis.

ps. Ya, I know......I need to get a life. :D
Take care RJ

This has been argued to death. I think the best judge of who the best player is would be the players themselves. And in so many polls in the past, it has always been Efren which majority of the players mention. Steve Mizerak, Earl Strickland (eventhough he was probably just trying to be modest and not mention himself), Johnny Archer, Francisco Bustamante, etc. all say that Efren is the best pool player that they have played with.

And in the WPC players profile that was mentioned, it is obvious that respect for Efren goes beyond boundaries. Naturally, most, if not all of the Filipino players wrote down Efren (and Bustamante) as their favorite player, with the exception of Jose PArica (he put down Buddy Hall, I think) who has had a long-standing feud with Efren, as everyone knows. But what was really telling is that a few Americans put in Efren as their favorite player as well (some also put in Parica), and we all know how nationalistic we Americans are. Swedes, Germans, Taiwanese, Koreans, it doesn't matter. They are billiards players also and they know their game and the one person they all admire is Efren Reyes.

One last note: I think crawler is Philipino too. But it doesn't matter. Efren belongs to the world now. The Philippines can't keep him. Also Alex P. and Bustamante. The whole world is their oyster and they belong to the whole billiard world! It's the greatest game ever invented!!!
